With the announcement of Machine For Pigs being delayed till 2013, along with like every single game worth a damn, the question is in the title of this topic.
Man it sure as hell sounds like it!
It will probably be one of the last years for tons of AAA stuff for a while. With the new consoles everyone will be adjusting to new hardware. But then, if Sony is serious about not launching a new console next year. Maybe 2014 will be good too. LOL! Too many unknowns. I wouldn't get my hopes up. Just think about how excited we were for 2012. Not that I'm complaining. But it hasn't been a HUGE year for games yet. Just a descent one.

Some serious AAA games coming out then (with exceptions). It sounds ridiculous!
Last of Us
Beyond: Two Souls
It'd take a lot to top '98. I mean Zelda OoT, Metal Gear Solid, Half Life, Starcraft, Resident Evil 2? These are all games that went on to practically define gaming for the subsequent decade. I'm sure they'll be other great years for gaming in the future but it's unlikely that we'll see such a confluence of hugely important games within a 12 month period again.
You all are forgetting about Total War Rome II. As for 2013 for gaming, I don't think it will be the best year, but a damn good one for sure!@Cheesebob said:

I started this exact same thread a couple weeks ago and got the same response and looking back on it I agree. There are a lot of great looking games coming out but it would require all of them being massive hits to beat years like 1998, 2004, and 2007. To compare it to 2007 since they are both current gen, in 2007 we had Bioshock, Crysis, Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Uncharted just to name some off the top of my head. Virtually all of those games went on to define the current generation. It will be hard to achieve equal success at the end of a console cycle. If both next gen consoles launch next year and there are some great new IP like Watch Dogs that launch with them then I could see it. But the only company pushing big new IP next year is Sony. I could see it being the best year for PS3 with a new God of War, Beyond, The Last of Us, and possibly The Last Guardian all coming out, but maybe not the best year for games in general.
Nope. It's just another year where people raise their expectations and have those hopes crash and burn. There will be good games, but not enough to call it the greatest year of gaming.
Sounds about right. People keep pushing the hype train to go faster and faster but then it ends up crashing and burning even harder than before.Nope. It's just another year where people raise their expectations and have those hopes crash and burn. There will be good games, but not enough call it the greatest year of gaming.
Is Elder Scrolls VI coming out? Is Fallout 4 coming out?
No, they probably aren't. Unless that changes, 2013 is not going to be the greatest year for gaming ever.
1999-2001 were my favourite years for gaming. Personally, 2013 looks more like games-that-are-trying-to-be-movies year. Not necessarily a bad thing but nothing in particular looks super innovative.
@mtcantor: You're not sure that the Sony/MS systems are coming out holiday 2013 but you are sure Watch Dogs won't come out 2013? The former is the one that seems pretty obvious.
Also, that could totally be current gen. It's just that the console version won't look nearly that good, like any other game also on PC.

Keep on dreamin' you crazy dreamer. Quote me if you want, I'm sure you don't actually care that much.
Watchdogs will NOT be a current gen game. No way no how. At the earliest I would expect it in early 2014.
Didn't we just have this conversation?
2013 - Best Year In Gaming History? ~ Raven10 on June 14, 2012
As I said before, history will judge each year in gaming after it's over. Who of us in 1997 said, "1998 is going to be the best year in video gaming ever!"?
We've been saying this for a long time, but I think this has to be the year when these finally get released:
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
The Last Guardian
Not saying any of these will be great, but it's just they've been in development for far too long.
