I've been itching to play a Persona game along with the other niche PSP titles, so my question is would picking one up on the cheap for under 100 bucks on ebay be worth it? Or do those games not justify the purchase?

NO just wait for the Vita pretty sure they will offer PSP games digitally or worse you might be able to like rip the PSP games and put them on the Vita that way.

@The_Drizzle: If there are more than 1 game on the psp that you would like , go for it , but as many have told you , you could wait for the Vita which is retroactive with the psp games (at least the digital ones) if you are going to use it more as a mp3 player and the like , then no

If you like JRPGs of various shapes and sizes then the PSP is a great purchase. I have numerous games with over 100 hours played each such as Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 Portable, Valkyria Chronicles II and Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions. Beyond that, I've probably logged close to 1,500 hours between Monster Hunter Freedom 2 and Monster Hunter Freedom Unite.

There are also smaller, quirky games like Half-Minute Hero and Patapon 1-3 that are great on the go. For the right audience there's a plethora of quality content on the PSP and most of it is extremely inexpensive. I'd take a look at the games that are available and decide for yourself whether or not there's enough to make it worth your investment.

Also seeing as how Sony already gave up trying to make existing games digital for the PSP go, I'm fairly certain they'll have even lest interest in doing so when the Vita comes out. I bought mine for $250(?) when FFT came out and I've loved the shit out of it ever since.

I enjoyed mine when I bought it, but in my old age I've gone away from portable gaming.

Maybe I'm too lazy now... not sure.

Basically if you like portable gaming, then it'd be a good buy. :)

I guess it's not worth it anymore. Better buy something else.

My thoughts exactly. I'm not saying the PSP is the greatest handheld ever but for fuck sakes if you just played Lumines on it I feel sorry for you.

I've come to the conclusion that the majority of games on the PSP that I am interested in, aren't games that I want to play "on the go", anyway - at which point I'd rather be playing the games in question on my PC or a (not handheld) console.

The kind of games I'm referring to: Peace Walker, Crisis Core: FF, etc.

IMO: Very few games that are portable-friendly on the PSP (at least that have been interesting to me).

I'd buy a PSP for Monster Hunter alone...that shit needs to come to the XBOX360 in europe...or hell I'd buy a ps3 for it, I love Monster Hunter.

I agree with Mazz, you might want to get the Vita. There aren't too many good games on the PSP, and I don't see any good ones coming out in the future either.

Get a gp2x wiz if you want something fun to play around with, pocket sized, and fairly unique. The games are also pretty cheap >.>

Getting a cheap second hand PSP is not a bad idea at all. Haters gonna hate.

There's enough gems to justify the purchase.

I think it'd be worth it if you were interested in obtaining PSP games through "alternative" means.  That seems like such a hassle to me though, so I plan to just wait for the Vita.

No the PSP kind of sucks. When I got it around the time it came out, to now, I've only played it a few times. I've had a chance to play most of the bigger games on it and I have a lot of them, but they're very hard to want to play because of the single analog stick. I would have loved to play the Syphon Filter games, and MGS games more if they had better controls. There are other aspects I dislike as well, but it's mainly personal, like how tilting my head down to look at the small screen hurts my neck after a while. I had a RGB (or was it RCA?) cable for it, but I somehow lost it three years ago, so I don't play it at all. The only thing I use it for, if ever, is for putting music or pictures on it to insert it onto the PS3 for a new wallpaper. Then again, I haven't done that in about a year or so, maybe more. So basically, the great games on the PSP deserve a better system to be on. After I played the PSP for the first time, I then noticed, I'm not a huge handheld fan at all. I'd say pass on it.
