Isn't Supreme Commander not the greatest RTS ever?
It features battles on a massive (never before seen) scale.
A lot of different units.
A hugh map.
multiple battlefields.
O I love this game.
What do you think?
Dude needs to learn some grammar, awful double negative in thread title.
Oh and Star Craft is the best RTS ever
No, not really. It tries to be big and epic, but just succeeds in feeling really slow and turgid.
Why would I enjoy going and capping 30 different resources on the map, then spending time upgrading those to T2, and then to T3? Why can't my T1 builder automatically upgrade to T2? Why do I have to build more builders that are at T2? Why do I need to spend all this fucking time fucking around with all this basebuilding crap? Why do I need to link all my little builders together to speed up a building's production? Why is GPG torturing me with this inane non-gameplay?
And of course, because of its huge size, most of the time you don't even get to see anything but a lot of weird looking tiny tactical symbols. I think Act of War had the perfect balance of scale with good infantry action (even inside buildings!), while also allowing for devastating nuclear strikes and massed tank rushes.

My favorite RTS of all time is Rise of Nations. It's Civ 3, but real-time, which is what makes it great.

I really enjoyed Sup Com but the matches take so effing long and it's a bit too complex. If they could cut out a lot of the unneccessary complexity of the game I think it could be a lot better. Having 50+ engineers of various Teirs and disiplines can be incrediby tiresome when all you want is a Tier 2 extractor and constructing bases in such a way to get adjacency bonuses is a complete pain in the arse. But the tactics available to players at end game are pretty incredible. Building 100 units in 2 minutes is a pretty awesome feeling and seeing them all get wiped out in half that time by a single base-sizes tank is also something worth seeing. I almost think that if each team started with 2 huge bases the game could be made better,
I really liked supCom, I can definitely understand why people wouldn't like it though, took me awhile to get into it. Anyway I hope people aren't basing their opinions off the 360 version...

it was a great game, it is a great game, its' sequel is looking great too. I won't qualify what is the BEST, because that is an opinionated statement. I will however say my most enjoyed RTS was WarCraft 3. My most played RTS was Medieval: Total War and my most disliked RTS was Command & Conquer: Generals, followed closely by Tiberian Sun. Supreme Commander was a damn fine game though.
SupCom was a great game but my number one issue with it was the slow pace and the fact even on the best of best machines it still chugged once the unit counts went above a certain number.
Hence my excitement for the sequel, everything that was wrong with SupCom is being addressed in SupCom2 and its looking endlessly superior because of it.
Supcom is one of my all-time favorite RTS's. Online play is very competetive, fast, intense, and mentallly exhausting, but you can still play slower paced skirmishes with friends just as well. The game's scale is its defining factor, making it unique from other high-profile RTS's like Company of Heroes, World in Conflict, or the Total War games. The ability to use ground units, fighters, bombers, gunships, gunboats, submarines, artillery, airborne troop transports, etc. all at the same time is awesome. The game was not without its flaws, but it is still a favorite of mine nonetheless. Very excited for Supcom 2, it seems as if they are making map design much more interesting, having good performance, better pathfinding, (hopefully) better use of formations, more unit upgradability/customization, and even more cool ideas gameplay wise (the unit cannon looks like a really cool way of providing reinforcements).
