Kotaku's journalistic integrity
That's why when the MW3 stuff got leaked I thought "Kotaku? Really?"
Also love how the comments on that story are locking on the error in the title.
I go there once a week for the webcomics.
Rest of the site is boring to read through, especially after the redesign.

Patrick Klepek said he'd had done the same thing, given the information. There's no reason to lash out at Kotaku for publishing the information, but otherwise, the site's journalistic integrity (or really, anything resembling a willingness to take criticism to heart and to own up to mistakes) is pretty much nonexistent.Glad to see this isn't about the MW3 leak. Don't understand people who lashed out at them for that. Publishing information is what you should do when presented with it.
Jornalizm! Do you hold video game hobbyist sites to some kind of gold standard? Even the Baltimore Sun makes shit up all the time. The idea that print media is this unassailable bastion of truth and honor died when there was a profit to be made. It ain't changin' any time soon...This has nothing to do with print media.
I liked Kotaku until I started coming here on a regular basis. The terrible redesign that caused 80% of Gawker users to leave? That was just the final nail in the coffin for me.
Well the redesign didn't affect me as I continue to use the old version, but what is annoying is that Ashcraft will post anything even related to Japan, regardless of its relation to videogames.
...but what is annoying is that Ashcraft will post anything even related to Japan, regardless of its relation to videogames.Mostly porn, really.
but what is annoying is that Ashcraft will post anything even related to Japan, regardless of its relation to videogames. If this were said on Kotaku, I'd have to warn you to avert your eyes to the incoming droves of suck ups wanting a star that are going to tell you that "It's a BLOG, they can post whatever they want because it's a BLOG. A BLOG. WHAT HAS MY LIFE COME TO?*".
*Brian Ashcraft has starred you.
Eugh.
Keep in mind that some of the perceived dubiousness might be more the fault of corporate politics than just the writers themselves. It's not as though Crecente and company are just running the show by themselves and that hasn't been the case for a very long time in the site's history, since I believe it was only briefly independent before getting bought out. A good number of Gawker's other sites aside from Gizmodo and Lifehacker aren't necessarily thought of as being top-knotch, either. Hell, as the main Gawker itself site proclaims, "Today's gossip is tomorrow's news." It doesn't make the issues that Kotaku has any better, but I always prefer putting things into perspective before outright jumping to conclusions. I only bring this up because I know at least some of the staff members have proper journalistic chops, Crecente having worked the police beat for a local paper in my state for over a decade before tackling Kotaku full time. These guys are doing their job and that probably involves having their work be at least somewhat dictated by Gawker's metrics the sort of content that's worth putting up and how to handle moderation. I'd say that's especially true of Ashcraft's articles, since I doubt he'd keep doing them unless someone higher up specifically told him to do so as the site's only full-time Japan correspondent.
Again, I'm not big on Kotaku, either. But I figure the culture there is what it is for a reason and not just because the staff "doesn't care." It could be that, of course, but there's probably more to it.
http://psoneclassics.com/miscellaneous/kotaku-shows-its-journalistic-integrity/LOL. Looking at Kotaku for 'journalistic integrity' is like relying on Sony to protect sensitive information. So, anyone else find it kind of shocking that not only do they post poorly researched, questionable material but that any redactions are not noted and that those critical of the articles have their comments deleted and stat commenter status removed?Hats off to them for the MW3 scoop recently and I do enjoy the occasional article (even those from Bashcraft which have little relevancy to actual games) but stuff like this should really have no place on such a prominent site. Makes the whole industry look bad.
Whatever. I will still keep Jezebel as my main source for video game-related news. No, wait...I get mine from Fleshbot.
