This could possibly be the best entertainment news for my family. . . WOW!
Lego Dimensions
Does anyone know if this will be a Traveller's Tales joint?
I would really like to play a LEGO game that isn't made by that developer for once.

It is, you can see their logo at the end of the video. Sorry dude.
Fun trailer, but kind of annoying that it doesn't give me any idea how the whole toys to life thing will work with Lego. It would be really cool if you could actually build stuff custom (even if it's only using specific dimensions-related products) and have it reflected in-game, but I'm doubting it'll go that far.
Based on what is on sale for preorder at amazon, it looks like the figures and vehicles are attached to bases. (It's pretty much disney infinite) oh well.
I tried to get into the Star Wars and Marvel Super Hero LEGO games but they just never clicked for me. Was hoping to see another developer's take on it. Oh well.
Well I have to admit to everyone I've preordered the following;
I cannot let Back to the Future gaming content pass me by and seem as Lego is about all the missus will play with me and she loves BTTF too it's a must buy. I'm assuming the portal can be used without building the lego jazz on top so it's a bit more discrete?
The Minifigures and sets are actual Lego's, but they will have the chip in them that the other Toys to Life products use.
Lego is probably the last company that will be able to do this without a possibility of failure. The Travelers Tales Lego titles are still pretty well loved, and the Lego is the number one toy brand in the world. I imagine Lego is more than happy to do this after their Fusion line bombed last year.
Surprised they're not selling a Jurassic Park figure for the game. Maybe their deal with them doesn't extend to the Dimensions brand.

Or maybe it will later down the line but they wanna stretch those Jurassic Park game sales into the Christmas Holidays!
I like the part where the Polygon writer conveniently registered http://legodimensions.com a day before the announcement and linked it to his Polygon article about the game. (now reverted)
That website and some of its staff are just something else.
@skadave: Doesn't look like they're attached. The bases for the minifigs have 2 studs for the feet and the vehicles bases seem to have 4 studs with a standard 2x2 circular brick on top that the vehicle rests on. It's still Lego, just with about a 200% markup from standard pricing for the NFC chips.

Seems like the stuff in-game will be fixed based on the NFC chips that are in the special circular base bricks that come with each minifig and vehicle. The actual minifigs and vehicles are Lego-ass-Lego though, so at least there's that.
EDIT: The real question will be whether or not players will be able to build stuff on their on in-game like Disney Infinity or if it's just going to be a regular Lego game like all the other regular Lego games which would be immensely disappointing.
I like the TT games and all, but Lego as a videogame brand has always seemed like missed potential to me. I don't know why there isn't a Lego Builder base game that allows you to build anything you want in a 3D isometric viewer. It doesn't seem that hard, really. Then you can play with your creations in a 3D space - if you build a plane, fly it...build a car, then drive it. And they could then sell licensed DLC packs for Star Wars, LotR, Batman, etc. The TT games are more story focused, and that's fine, but Lego should be about creativity not recreating scenes from movies.
I really do like the TT Lego games. I was super burnt out on them, but after a couple of year break from them I think I'm ready to play (at the very least a quarter of) Jurassic Park.
While this seems like the most natural fit or progression of these games I can't help but think opening with Batman, LotR and The Lego Movie is really weak. If I want to play Batman Lego games I'll play one of the three available, same with the Hobbit etc. Back to the Future is obviously a draw to some, and the figure would be to me if I didn't already own the car. (I am a child) I'd have loved to see some weirder choices with starter sets more like the Wizard of Oz stuff.
£100 for a game is not cheap, especially one I'm going to assume is similar to what I've played countless times before, just with more glorified DLC. This feels like a dangerous hole. Lego is cool, very, very cool. At £15 a figure/lego set I can't help feeling like you'd be better off just buying physical Lego sets and building them yourself... that's fun... right?
