The whole media services streaming thing has been a big deal for the previous generation, and the new current generation promises even more of that - Microsoft front and center with Xbox One's All-In-One direction, and Sony not far behind with the promise of Gaikai.
The thing is, media streaming services haven't really materialized in many parts of the world, and what is on offer in such markets is often ridiculously overpriced and has a ludicrously limited and out-of-date catalogue on offer (I remember wanting to stream Star Trek off my 360 from Microsoft's service, the HD stream cost the equivalent of 20$ in Microsoft Points at the time). Right now it's pretty much impossible to rent a current movie from a VoD service. Those are still stuck in the mail-order phase of Netflix.
I know PS4 and Xbox One got quite a decent support for streaming content from services like Netflix and Amazon Direct and what have you. My question goes to everybody else. How is the media services streaming situation where you're living? What kinds of apps does PS4 and Xbox One support right now?
I live in Switerland, and all we're getting on PS4 right now is an IGN app. No youtube. No local streaming services supported (what shitty ones we have). No Sony Music/Movie Unlimited. Nothing whatsoever. Xbox One isn't out until Spring 2014 (wonder what Microsoft is thinking with staying out of a high average income country), but I bet the situation won't be any better there.
