So I have this problem. I have this perfect game in my head. The game that, above all, *I* want to play. It's not a complex idea, but I don't think I've seen a game that really fits it well. It's been dinking around in my heard for forever and I thought I would finally turn to the place where I might find some answers: duders.

Did you ever play drug wars (also known as dope wars)? You start off with a little money and have the opportunity to buy 7-8 different types of drugs at varying prices. You then leave that location and go to one of the other 6 or so locations. The price of the drugs will vary by location and are affected by things like shortages, drug busts, etc. It's a very basic buy low, sell high simulator. It was a ton of fun and I remember playing it on a buddy's palm pilot for the entirety of an international flight. This is the main thing I want to be able to do. Get resources, sell for profit at varying places.

Maybe I played too much Minecraft when it came out. I loved gathering resources, and then things like Tekkit mods came around and I could convert said resources into currency, I was hooked. So all I want to do is mine and trade for resources in various space locales.

I understand mining and trading is a thing in most space sims. But from what I've seem, most games, including Elite Dangerous, have it as a secondary thing you can do while you pew pew pew lasers all over the galaxy. I never got into Homeworld or any of those other early PC space sims ( I can't even name more than Homeworld if that tells you something) and I just don't get off on space combat. Sure I understand it has to be there, but does it have to be the main focus?

I assume the responses to my question will probably just be "go play Eve Online, wanker". I guess maybe that IS the answer, but that's an awfully tough nut to crack. I tried and tried to get into it but I just couldn't keep my head above water drowning in spreadsheets.

Any ideas, duders? Am I just misjudging all the major space sim games out there or is there something I'm not familiar with?

TL;DR I wanna be a space miner/trucker/stock broker not a pew pew pew laser man.

From what I understand of Elite Dangerous, economy and space trucking is more what people play that game for, not the occasional space dogfight.

Agreed, it sounds like you should just play Elite. Space trucking is 90% of that game. You will get shot at while mining/if you have valuable cargo but it's very rare and often you can just run away.
