My VinnyVania Family Portrait
Brilliant. Reminds me of the Kramer portrait in Seinfeld.
Put that on a shirt and sell it dude, I'd buy.
@beligerent_beard: I just can't stop looking at this and smiling. Incredible work.
Nice portrait but i can't help but want a little more belmont or vampire attire for the GBeast crew.
@flavbot:Sure! I always start off with sketches on paper. The original sketch for this was 1"x1". This is small, but sometimes I don't always need a lot of detail if I just want to see the composition. Plus, I can fill a page with small comps and see what works. From there, I scan the sketch into Photoshop and go to town! I posed in front of a mirror for this painting. I feel stupid doing it, but it's how I learned. My file was pretty big, 24" x 36" at 800dpi. It can chug when you have a lot of layers (I think I had around 210 layers in the end), but I find the hi resolution is good for printing at sizes up to and exceeding a standard poster.
Hardware
- Wacom tablet. I have an old Intuos 3 tablet. There are newer and better options available, but this has worked for me so far.
Software
- Photoshop
- "Kyle's ULTIMATE MegaPack". This guy has a bunch of brush sets for sale and I can't recommend them enough. Search for "Kyle T. Webster" and it will pop up. His stuff is cheap, but indispensable. The MegaPack has a TON of stuff, so be patient and play around with the brushes until you settle into something that works for you.
Hope this helps!
