GiantBomberMen!

My cohort Estariol and I are huge fans of GiantBomb & the Bombcast, as well as the other Whiskey Media sites (esp. Screened and Tested). We've started a webcomic related to video games called Life In Decline, and wanted to share it with the community as well as garner some feedback. We hope you all enjoy! The site is lifeindecline.com, and below is a taste test.

p.s. per the forum guildelines, since our site is not commercialized, and I've seen other people sharing their great work here, we're assuming this kind of post is welcome. If we're mistaken, just let us know.

Cheers!

Artwork is pretty impressive. It's not funny/intelligent/insightful in any way though.

At least not yet. It's the first comic, and I never judge by just one.

Go to their website and click the little thumbnails below the comic. There are 4 or 5 so far.

I'd just like to add: It's great that you're a fan of GB and other WM sites, but you're clearly not interested in the community. I find it really disrespectful that you come in here and expect the community to give a fuck about you and support your website/comic/creative endeavour when you don't give two shits about them.

Not very good. To be fair, Penny Arcade started out pretty shitty at first too. I don't really have any advice to give you; I just don't find them funny.

If this becomes another "two gamers on a couch" webcomic I will be sad.

@bartok: Being better than Buckley is hardly something to brag about.

Overall I agree with @Khann, the art is decent enough -- as far as webcomics go, anyway -- but none of the comics are insightful or particularly humorous in any way.

Tim Buckley's work is impressive, not by comic standards, but by the overall work put behind his grindwheel. As an artist myself who lives by royalties, I can only applaud whoever tries his best to win his/her life with its art. That said, as for te webcomic, I can only wish you guys good luck. It's hard work, and more often than enough,m results won't be the oens you want, but if you keep it up, you may get what you want in the end.

I have a suggestion. Don't make videogame webcomics. This suggestion is completely removed from the fact I don't think your jokes are good, and your artwork is awkward, because those things can get better. It's just that they won't get better enough to even make Joystiq's webcomic wrapup. The market is over saturated, and has been over saturated for fucking ages. You want to make something that people will actually come back to, come up with a genuinely personal idea, and work at it. Half hearted attempts at pop culture references and dumb newspaper comic style gags will get you exactly nowhere.

All -

Thanks for the feedback from everyone, both positive and critical, it's all appreciated. This is a hobby for us, something we really enjoy that breaks the monotomy of the staid cubicle jobs we both have, and it's exciting to have others see it. As Mowgers commented, definitely webcomics are saturated as medium, gaming ones particularly, and there are some awesome ones already out there. In this case, we went with a subject we know & love, and hope to continue to do it as long as we enjoy it.

I do want to address those who responded saying they felt it was disrespectful of us to post this because we're not interested in the community - disrespect was not our intent. We wanted to share with this community, because we do feel part of it. Definitely true we are not thread posters (that's just not typically how I interact, as I tend to have to reread composed messages 30 times before I submit...), but between reading the forums, hanging out in Friday's Happy Hours, attending PAX panels with you guys, doing quests, and even trying my hand at writing a single trivia (oh it's terrible), from our subjective viewpoint, we thought (and still think) this is a great place to share our hobby and get feedback. Again, for our part, no disrespect intended.

Thanks again for the feedaback all! Like I said it's appreciated and just fun to have people see stuff you're created. See you around the site!
