All these future games run off the Frostbite Engine 3

It would seem that Wii U can not run the Frostbite Engine what so ever

This is a major blow from Ea on the future of 3rd party support for Nintendo that has been struggling to appeal to the US/EU market

With the recent major game like BioShock Infinite skipping the Wii U much less no Saints Row 4 either to see the light of day on Wii U

Other titles like Grand Theft Auto 5 & Metal Gear Solid 5 will most likely skip the Wii U

No word yet as if Battlefield 4 for PS3/Xbox 360 do out in Fall will be running off 3.0 or 2.0?

*New*

No Unreal 4 Engine Support for Wii U either

I play on Nintendo consoles for Nintendo games. No big loss. Probably should be playing these games on a PC anyways.

You just hadto pick that, of all things, as your avatar.

On topic, who expected any real third party support on Nintendo consoles? Apart from the occasional watered-down port, I mean?

Didn't another console die because EA didn't put its games on it?

That's Unreal Engine I think.

As someone who wants to get a WiiU, this isn't the system I was going to play those types of games on anyway. I have my PC for those.

The game (BF4) is Running on the Third Edition of the Frostbite engine from what I have heard. Either way I play my WiiU for Nintendo stuff anyhow, I will not really be missing all those other games.

It's not really surprising. Despite early assurances to the contrary, the Wii U is still shaping up to just be a platform for Nintendo games. I don't think that's particularly alarming; it's just the reality.

Nintendo needs to announce Something this year, that's Not Pikmin..

I mean, they still got Madden, I guess? ~ Oh wait, we'll see if Wii-U gets Madden-Infinity Engine, this year. Yeesh.. ~ And NBA Live 14, at all!

Infinite didn't go on WiiU? Ouch, that has to suck for whoever is in charge of getting third party support for that thing.

@shinjiex: Not really a concern in terms of being a Wii U owner. The console is great for Nintendo exclusives, and sometimes ends up with interesting 3rd party titles if Nintendo makes it happen (or it is a particular genre). Otherwise it is abominably slow, and you are generally better off on the PC version (if your a graphics fiend anyway).

They should consider themselves lucky, since all those franchises have nose dived.

The WiiU demographic wouldn't play games like that anyway. The WiiU may be an unmitigated disaster, but I'm not sure that this is devastating news tbqh.

they should stick a cell processor in this thing just to make it the least attractive platform to develop for of all time.

Sales matter at the end of day though not your like or dislike of the game...

EA is just a really shitty company that still sells millions. Part of me enjoys that they can't spread their plague to innocent Nintendo consoles, other part is sad for peeps who won't enjoy those franchises on WiiU + Money for Ninty.

Eh, I'd say the Mass Effect Dragon Age Battlefield franchise is pretty overrated anyway. Fucking crazy inconsistent as well; one moment it's a sci-fi RPG shooter, the next it's some sort of multiplayer focussed modern military thing! Like, make up your damned mind, MEDAB!

I have no idea how this console is going to be salvaged. All of the markets that Nintendo used to appeal to have been stolen:

Young kids aren't drawn to consoles nearly as much anymore since phone games are always just one parent's smartphone away, and older kids will be drawn to the "gritty" action of whatever shooter is popular at the time which is never going to end up on a Nintendo console. That leaves a small range of 6 to 10 year olds who would really want to play a Mario game.

Casual adult gamers would be drawn to the incredibly cheap games they can get on tablets they already have, and soccer moms love free social games on facebook.

The only niches that Nintendo still has squared away are the party game niche and the 90's nostalgia market. Both of those are great niches (mario party being the ultimate mix of the two), but I highly doubt they could carry a console for 5+ years.

Surely Nintendo realizes all this though. I'd love to know what their plan is.

With the exception of the Mass Effect 3 port, none of those franchises have any history on a Nintendo platform. Does it really matter that they won't be on the Wii U?
