This is depressing. I hoped it did well since it was sold out in my shopping area. Well I enjoy it.
I brought it new so I did my part.
Oh man. Asura's Wrath and Syndicate both BOMBED.

I can understand Asura perhaps. When it comes to Syndicate, this (to me at least) is a fantastic sign that has made me more optimistic about gaming.

Asura's Wrath does look crazy awesome but any developer asking me to spend £40 on a 6 hour game can throw in a free blowjob too, thanks.
you're gonna be mad that you didn't buy the game now.

The ironic thing here is, if Syndicate was a smaller, lower budget title sticking to it's roots and released on steam, it probably would have made more money as indie games easily make 100+ thousand units
So once again, ha ha EA. Ha ha.
but it's not EA that will feel the brunt of it; it's the developers. EA will be fine, more than likely.
Oh shit, I figured Syndicate would do decent. Not surprised that Asura's Wrath didn't do so well but it sucks non-the-less.
As disappointing Asura's Wrath numbers are, I'm not really surprised - it's the kind of game that is really niche.
Syndicate however, I'm extremely annoyed at it doing so poor. It's a really cool game, and I was really hoping for more content. Guess that is unlikely to happen. :(

@CptBedlam: Harsh words. I was hoping syndicate would have been a good game since I still am amazed by Chronicles of Riddick. Guess I learned a lesson.
I loved Riddick. It's not the same dev team, however, so I didn't have particularly high expectations. Hopefully EA learns a lesson from this, too: pay more respect to the legacy of classic franchises (and no more dubstep).
Were these games even marketed? There's a reason why marketing budgets usually rival the development budgets, because it sells games. As for Syndicate not being on Steam, I think that definitely affected it. I have Origin installed for BF3 and only for BF3 because EA will never move one of their biggest PC franchises off of a platform they want to push. However for something like Syndicate, I'm just waiting for it to go on Steam cause it's a game I can take it or leave it.
I'm not surprised these both bombed when Mass Effect 3 offers both a series of linear cutscenes and a generic sci-fi shooter all in one package.
Bad news. Publishers wont make sequels to these games. Good news..BARGIN BIN SALES SOOON!!! WOOOOOOO
I'm not surprised by Asura's numbers, that game was never going to sell gangbusters. On the bright side, the fact that it isn't as interactive probably means that the budget wasn't as crazy. You don't have a whole lot of bug testing to do when half of your game is unfailable QTEs. I'll pick it up when its closer to $20.
From the thread title I thought this was implying they did really well thanks to their coverage on Giant Bomb.

How do you know they bombed? each sold over 30 thousand copies in one month, since when does a game have to sell a million units in a week to be a success? It's not like every successful game out there sold in the millions.. Only a few titles or franchises manage to get such figures.
A bomb is something that doesn't make it's money back. Syndicate probably won't make it's money back.
Asura's Wrath shouldn't have been a $60 game. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to getting Syndicate at a discounted price.
Everybody just remember this when people start bitching about there not being any new IPs out there.
Update: Amazon has Syndicate for $49.99 so go buy guys!

But it's not a new IP (syndicate). It's an existing IP, made to be more like an another existing IP, Call Of Duty.
The original syndicate I found to be boring (still have the PS1 version somewhere). I do want to play this remake, though, at some point. Mainly because I really like Star Breeze and how they develop games. If it was on steam I'd have bought it already.
I want to check out Asura's Wrath, as well, but I can't really justify spending 60$ on it. I mean that's about what I've spent on some Anime DVD collections (sometimes way more) but I'm not so sure it's even as long as those so.. I don't know. I am going to check it out eventually though.
Syndicate is a reboot, but for all intents and purposes it's a new IP. Because trust me, those numbers say that few people remember the original.

That's not the original Syndicate. You're talking about Syndicate Wars and yes, it wasn't a good game. The original Syndicate was great, however.
Also, you may like the name "Starbreeze" but these are not the people who developed Darkness and Riddick anymore.

I remember the original. In fact I still have it. Yet I didn't buy it. Practically every pc gamer I know who has played the the original, isn't bothering with it.You know why? Because it's not marketed towards them, it's not aimed at them. It's aimed at Call Of Duty players.
Heres another example of an old loved pc game... Diablo. Along comes Torchlight, 1 million sold. Sequel in the works.
Great praise, the world happy. Fireworks in the sky. Practically 0 marketing. Far less then Syndicate.
edit: Well crap. Just lost the long sales list I made fumbling with the spoiler block.
Anyway, what it showed was that most successful shooters (Deus Ex, Borderlands) have first week USA sales of 100k-400k, most middling shooters (Kane & Lynch 2, Wanted) have sales of 40-80k, and outright bombs (Bodycount, Mindjack) have sales of 10-20k. Use VGChartzto lookup weekly sales figures.
I'm not too surprised that neither game did well. I am surprised that Syndicate didn't actually manage to outsell QTE: the game though.
I'm going to pin it on EA's marketing scheme of announcing the game three months before release. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but there probably wasn't enough momentum behind it. Such a small marketing period means less exposure to people who don't follow video game news super closely.

Uh... you know VGChatz makes up their numbers and is completely unreliable, right?
