"I don't know if this is a very good idea guys. I'm pretty sure anyone can get past 1000 eventually, and when they do what is to stop them from posting stuff that doesn't make sense, has bad grammar, or doesn't belong? I think there should always be moderation."it only counts for the wikis... and they check your stuff, they just check it later then they usually would..
Over 1000 posts lets you bypass moderation
"You can still be moderated, but your edits and submissions can go live immediately after you reach 1,000 points. Points are not posts. You get points based on the approved content you submit."Yeah. Its just since you have been here for awhile your Wiki-edits dont need approval. But I think everyone in the forums will always been moderated.
except that has nothing to do with forum moderation only that changes you make will no longer be submited to the queue instead the edits will become immeadiate.
"If you're going to accumulate 1,000 points purely so you can bypass the moderation and vandalise the wiki, there's something seriously wrong. I don't think petty vandals are going to spend the time getting those 1,000 points - and even if they do, anything dramatic can be quickly reported and removed. You'd be surprised at what people do just because they are bored or love that kind of thing. But as aforementioned, I would assume they are still moderated just later while posting the edit instantly. Might as well work on points now because it might get more difficult later.
"
Yeah, it takes a serious amount of QUALITY edits to get 1,000 points. That's the whole point of the 1,000 point gate. It keep vandals out, while allowing the people who are really into the wiki stuff to edit their articles without having to wait. Seems like a good system to me, at least in theory.
But do we know how much effort it takes to get to 1000. Personally I don't and I don't think that most people do.
"You need 1000 points, not 1000 posts.yeah that makes more sense and i'd say thats fine. once you get that many posts, i doubt anyone is going to start posting nonsense. i dont think there anyone thats big enough of a total loser to sit there and submit 100's of accurate stuff just to get 1000 points to make an ass out of yourself and piss site viewers off.
"
I'm pretty sure your not bypassing moderation, but instead, your sending your info for Mod Approval, but having 1000pnts means your trust worthy enough to allow your content to go up on the site, with out waiting. When the mod gets to your content, he/she can probably remove it and revert back to what was there before.
I would also imagine that, like the value of investments, points can go up AND down... so if you hit 1000 points by submitting good rational content and then decide to freak out all over the site, your score is going to drop down under the 1000 mark again (as you get moderated down and reverted)? Now this is just a guess, but would seem a sensble way to work it.
Perhaps 1000 straight posts without a moderation?
If someone wants to, say, spam the site with a bunch of porn, they might consider spamming a bunch of topics with junk replies to get up to a thousand. But they'd probably get moderated for spam at some point, which would reset their count back to zero.
Of course, if someone wants to be a well-behaved, thoughtful, intelligent poster for some weeks to get to a thousand posts without a moderation, only to spam the site with porn the moment they hit that mark... there's not much you can do except ban them and point them towards a solid psychiatrist.
"ANYONE can post on Wikipedia.org and I don't see mass hysteria over there. If someone lies or makes a mistake, anyone can just revert back. It's easy. "But that's because they have bots that revert the page back to normal if someone reports vandalism, I doubt Giant Bomb has any bots like that.
