Palate Cleanser game suggestion

Hi,

I’ve burnt out on my current slate of games (Diablo 3, Destiny 2 & Division 2) and need a palate cleanser.

I would like to play a small to medium game (~10 hours or so)

I have Xbox game pass so anything on that would be a bonus or failing that I have access to Switch, Xbox or PC.

Toejam and Earl came out recently, and is a fun, chill throwback to one of the best Genesis games (certainly my favorite).

Night in the Woods?

Mini Metro, Train Valley, Prison Architect, Two Point Hospital, Rimworld, Spelunky, Binding of Isaac, Dungeon of the Endless, an adventure game.

Going to try Night in the woods, I remember that was talked about on GOTY in 2017(?). Thanks for the suggestions though some more to look at in the future.

Skate 3.

Gamepass Specific:

Braid is fantastic and brief, but super engaging.

Crackdown 3 is another game you can just hop into, jump around, collect some orbs, have some fun, and walk away from once properly cleansed.

Hellblade is short and amazing, especially if you get all the presentation trappings of HDR and an Xbox One X.

Maybe try a Hitman episode?

Just Cause 3 and 4 are on Gamepass. I played a good chunk of 3. If you engage with the good stuff and ignore the garbage, there’s a lot of fun to be had.

Late Shift is dumb fun. You can play through this FMV choose your own adventure in a couple of hours.

Monday Night Combat is great coop.

Mortal Kombat X has a cool story mode, but it might run a little long.

Onrush is a ton of fun. It’s Overwatch but the setting is racing. It’s not really a racing game, though.

Oxenfree is great.

I really like Ryse. It’s not super short, but it’s a great level of engaging on it’s hardest difficulty out of the box. It’s cool.

Screamride is surprisingly fun. It’s worth checking out as a palate cleanser, for sure.

The Flame and the Flood gets a little hectic, but it’s super cool and the music is amazing.

Sweeper is a fantastic puzzle game. I adored this one.

Doom 2016

For recent things, Donut County and Moonlighter have been my comfort games. There's also the absolute treasure trove of laid-back Harvest Moon-likes we've received in recent years (Stardew Valley, Slime Rancher, Staxel, My Time at Portia). I also quite enjoy relaxing behind the wheel of American Truck Simulator.

Gamepass specific: RiME, Ruiner, Mutant Year Zero, HeadLander, Crackdown 3. Those were the games that I’ve been jumping back to when I need a break from whatever main game I’m playing at the time.

Her Story

I'd strongly recommend Spec Ops: The Line. Assuming you like third person shooters (it's a solid one mechanically), it's pretty short, and it's really unique and great for what it does with story. To me that is a nice escape from the games as services you listed.

@stephen_von_cloud: I played SpecOps in one sitting, which is something I’ve done maybe twice in my adult life. I then played it through again the next day.
