I once as a child received a PC game sampler pack. It had five disks, each containing a variety of game demos from a specific genre. The adventure disk contained the games Exile I and II, along with many others I don't remember. The game I am trying to remember the name of was also on the disk. I would estimate the game to be early 90s.

It was a medieval 2D areal view castle/dungeon exploration game with very simple graphics.

The character graphic remained the same throughout the game regardless of what armor or weapon you had equipped. It was the head and torso of a very buff guy wearing nothing but a speed-o and holding a sword.

You started in your home village and headed north to explore a rat infested cave that led into some sort of multi level castle dungeon. Here you would battle an assortment of rats, trolls, ogres, giants, etc while finding new enchanted swords, armor, jewelry, etc. Once you defeat the final boulder throwing giant of the dungeon, you return to your village to find it burned to the ground. This is where the demo ended, but the came was supposed to continue by traveling west to the next castle.

That all I can remember, I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

Thanks

No, it had a flatter image, and I have figured out it was the Castle of the Wind, but thanks anyway.

On a modern PC No.

unless you rewrite game code the .dll anf files of the old OS are long gone in windows 7 you are lucky if they have the windows 95 and 98 files Oh and Direct x 9 is not even really supported in windows 7 its emulated and so Is 32 bit support on the 64 bit version. Or somebody else has re did the code and made a PATCH for modern PCs. Good old games .com does that a lot. www.gog.com

So any game with out Direct x 10/11 support is not really supported and is virtualized/emulated in windows 7 and that was pretty much the last part of windows 98 and 95 in windows xp anything from windows 3.1 was long gone in windows XP and windows xp did some tricks to make 98 and 95 games run on it. also they removed the boot to dos for some reason eventhough dos is still running under windows xp.

And in windows 7 ultimate XP support is emulated by hardware virtualzation the exact same thing as virtualbox.

I just use virtual machines or keep some old Ass pcs with windows 98 window 3.1 and dos around install all Old ass pc games on those.

Oh and there is also another problem the game swill run too since they do not have a throttle for CPU clock speeds I ran some games on a modern PC in dos and they went to fast to play there is no CPU throttle code in the game from keeping it running to fast on a super fast modern PC. Like you wont even see the game it will be just tons of screen flashes hours of the game would go by in less than second. Dosbox/virtual machine have clock speed emulators.

So that is your only choices make a old ass PC for old ass PC games like a pentuim box a 486 box and maybe a pentuim 3/4 box for windows 98 stuff or use a virtualzation emulator.Or you could be really bad ass and run old ass games on a old SGI UNIX/irex workstation .... you know those powerful computers from the 90s used to make special effects in movies like jurassic park...

@greengbo: That sounds a bit like a PC port of Rastan II (Nastar Warrior).
