Triangle, for the most part.

For Japanese games (that I can recall) Circle was almost always the confirm button (like our "X"). I'm thinking mostly of the MGS and FF series, but I don't import a lot of games, so I'm no expert.

So the cancel button on a controller almost resulted in a fist fight, jeez.

Um, I think circle is shorthand for yes in Japan, and X is no.

Heard that on a Bombcast I think.

Yea, Japanese is usually O for select, X for cancel.  3D Dot Game Heroes on my Japanese copy which just came out holds true to this.

I've played games that had triangle backing out of menus, but it was usually O to back out in the US.

Yeah dude MGS used to mess me up so bad before I got used to it. Sometimes it took me like three tries to load my save game because I kept hitting X and going back, lol no joke.

PS1 was X for a lot of games.

PS2 was Triangle.

PS3 is now O.
