I personally prefer AMD, only because I tend to root for what I perceive as the underdog. What about you guys? Which do you think makes the faster processor?
POLL - AMD or Intel?
I prefer Intel, though if I were to build a new PC with a fairly tight budget I would definitely consider an AMD processor.
I don't have a personal preference throughout the years i have used both brands and been extremely happy with both. Intel might be ahead in the tech department, but AMD really gives you a good deal for your money.
I'm using an AMD at the moment. I've always used Intel/nvidia combos in the past so this time I'm trying out an AMD/ATI combo and it's working fine I guess. The CPU gets absurdly hot during longer gaming sessions though with the stock fan but I suppose that's to be expected.
I'm going for an Intel next time for sure though.
Intel is the better brand for gaming from experience and benchmarks. I actually use amd, i'm going to switch back for my next build.
" in general i like intel, but amd is awesome for gaming/overclocking. "You speak the truth sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar. :P
AMD - much much much much MUCH better value for money.
I've got a Phenom ii X2 550, overclocked to 3.52GHz and it's magic.
Feel the power of my exceptionally good value e-peen.

$100 - and it beats the entry level Intel 920 at less than half the price. AND you may even get lucky with your mobo and unlock an extra core or two.
I like AMD since from my experience they've worked well for me. I've got an Intel on this PC though but that still works fine. The rest of my PC not so much.
The whole Intel - AMD war is a cat and mouse game.
For example with the i7 architecture proved a major victory for Intel;
It erased another bastion where AMD was leading, with superior memory controllers. And Intel is using an advanced 45-nanometer manufacturing process (while AMD were still making 65-nm chips). It's an eternal game of cat-and-mouse, where AMD has been looking better lately, but i7 changed the game again.
Next step in AMD's game will be the Fusion, basically the child of the merger AMD+ATI. It is supposed to combine general processor execution as well as 3D geometry processing and other functions of modern GPUs into a single package. It will be really interesting to see where a GPU and CPU on the same silicon will lead us.
At the current moment I prefer the Intel CPUs more than the AMD, but that's not to say I have AMD. They were the pioneer of the whole Hyperthreading (which lead to the core visualization on the Intel CPUs)AMD Phenom II x2 black edition for $100, versus an Intel i5 for $300. Really, there's no comparison. AMD makes the best price-performance mid-range CPUs on the market.
Edit: Hehe, that's funny, I also oc'd my CPU to 3.5 ghz and it completely dominates my old processor. I'll start worrying about quad core when my CPU becomes a bottle neck, but I don't think I'll have to worry about that for a loooong time. After all, people are still playing non-processor intensive games on Pentium 4 chips without any problems.
AMD have had some very interesting technologies. For example, the HyperTransport technology.
i7 have replaced the FSB, and this technology was originally implemented by AMD.
Also the whole on-die GPU/CPU idea might revolutionize the x86 and x64 architecture, and might put AMD ahead.

<.<
are you being sarcastic?
also, man, i'd rather buy a crazy super expensive i7 and an X58 motherboard than an AMD...
but if i'm on a tight budget AMD is a good alternative for a good price.
I am currently running an AMD rig and will probably go with AMD again. That AMD Phemon X4 985 Black Edition is looking very promising. It is like 150$ for a proc that in performance terms is between intels i5 and i7's and lower than both in price.

But no really, I too generally like Intel, but AMD makes some CPUs that are super freakin' easy to overclock. They are a lot cheaper in most cases too. I was just being a douche with the gentleman and scholar stuff. : )
" I have no preference. As long as the CPU is good, I'm happy. "This right here. I used to care, but both are pretty much the same for my CPU needs. If I was always building the latest and greatest gaming PCs then I might care, but when I do assemble one, it's whatever is reasonably priced for my limited requirements.
I don't really care for the most part. Everything I have is Intel, so that's what I voted, but I'm not going to refuse a computer and/or processor because it has AMD. I'm using an i7 920. My biggest thing against AMD is that they tend to run hotter than Intel chips. That's not necessarily a bad thing and it may not even be true these days, but since I have no intentions on ever watercooling my system, I'd prefer my system to be of the "runs cooler" variety so an air-cooled system will keep everything nice and happy.
