Price cuts for 360 to mean.....

1. Microsoft will sell an assload of consoles and might not win the generation, but might at least turn a profit.
2. The Wii will still sell stronger, even with the hike in Microsoft sales.
3. No noticeable change in sales will occur, making this a colossal failure for Microsoft.
4. Satan will eat Microsoft's headquarter for underselling their console by so much.

Red rings will happen until Microsoft releases that 360 they were talking about... The slim 360 thing... Due out in like February or something? I'm not sure. Anyway... So the profits they make won't be much after the expenses of all those people who get red rings unless they are making it up in software. But I don't know, I'm no book keeper for Microsoft... Thankfully.

Price cut for 360 = I have to pay less when I get one, which makes me happy. :)

That is the best way I can put it.

For my honest answer I really don't know if it'll hurt Microsoft or not.
But it making it more affordable so a lot more people can purchase one which is great.

I don't see how this will make the Wii sell stronger. The 360 Arcade will be cheaper than the Wii. While the 60GB 360 will be just $50 more. As an owner of a Wii, I can tell you, the Wii is certainly not worth it's $250 price tag. People would be foolish to not buy the 360 over the Wii when it's only $50 more and far superior in pretty much every way.

The Wii is a media darling.  People buy the media darling.  Just like the iPhone.  It may not be all that good, but it's what people want.

"Microsoft owns the Halo IP--Bungie does not. It was a small part of their split agreement. Microsoft and Epic Games are business partners at the moment, nothing more than that. They created an IP together (to which I guarantee Microsoft has enough control over to dictate where it goes--basically, don't expect it elsewhere), but aren't any further involved with one another than that.

The price cut is just a business strategy, as they always are. Your post already reaks of fanboyness given those choices, but I'm going to say "none of the above." The 360 will see a sells boost that will soon settle down (likely by the end of October), but will then pick up again once the Gears of War 2 hype machine gets in motion."

I'm pretty sure that chopping the price of 360s will - get this - cause a shitload more 360s to sell, gaining money for Microsoft (since they've cut the manufacturing cost by this point to the level where they aren't losing money, even at the new prices).

I think that, if you're looking at the console war like an Olympics race, Microsoft doesn't have a prayer of winning the gold. Since they're making more than enough money and have accumulated a pretty hefty "gamer's game" library, I don't see why anyone cares about that. Except Microsoft, who seems to have casual-penis envy.

Last I was aware,  Microsoft was selling The 360 console at a loss or for a negligible profit. Microsoft has been and probably always will make their money off lisencing games, and selling games they publish. The logic behind the price cut, is to sell more consoles, which in turn sells more games.

Realistically:

1)  360 sales will improve significantly for a large time period.

2) The Wii's sales will decrease with time (by nature of the beast) until it hits a steady low (it's the business cycle).

3) Both companies are rich.

5) Profit for MS because 10 million users paying 60$ a year for live = $$$, and Nintendo because HOLY SHIT they are selling a lot of Wiis.

Price cuts mean nothing to me. I own a launch 60 GB PS3, ROD 360 replacement of a launch 360, and a PSP slim and have no intention of buying anymore.
