First of all apologies if this is in the wrong forum (I'm not entirely sure and this is my first post, I'm very new). I'm about to get home from University for what will be my last big summer holiday for the foreseeable future (around 8 weeks) and I want to play a few games as that's not something I really have time for at Uni.

Rather than pay £20 to get one semi-new game, I've decided to go for a couple of months rental service from a site like Boomerang and be able to try out several. That's where this thread comes in; I'm looking for recommendations for PS3 games that won't take up too much time and I'll be able to play for a week or so and enjoy. I've not played all that many games (I've just connected my PSN to this account, so you can have a look at my achievements if you want to make sure there's no overlap), and I don't necessarily need my games to be of the highest quality, rather I'm more drawn to interesting ideas that offer something a little different across a wide array of genres. This is my pretty eclectic list so far:

  • Spiderman Shattered Dimensions
  • Assassin's Creed Revelations
  • SSX
  • Syndicate
  • Max Payne 3
  • Alice: Madness Returns
  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2

Anything you'd recommend to look out for?

@Pterion: First off Welcome to Giant Bomb, out of those games listed I would personally go with Max Payne 3. It has a great single player and a great multiplayer, or if your really into the series SSX is a fantastic game.

I hope you continue to enjoy Giant Bomb.

I'd probably add Yakuza 4 to that list, just to get something quirky in there. It's not a long game either, maybe 20 hours or so.

So I just took a look at your current games, here are what I personally recommend.

  • The Elder Scrolls IV: Skyrim.
  • Saints Row the Third.
  • Asuras Wrath.
  • Flower.

You have to play Journey. It doesn't utilize your rental service, but it will cost about the same. And you have to play Journey.

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I'll be sure to check those out! (although I'm a little worried that Skyrim could end up just eating up my whole summer...)

I'm into the series in the sense that SSX Tricky is probably my most played game of all time (alongside, somewhat embarrassingly, the FIFA World Cup 98 game), but I haven't played one since.

I managed to play it when I was back for Easter, and I played through it several times and loved each of them. I distinctly seem to remember achieving more trophies than are showing up on my Giantbomb page such as the various secrets and the entire playthrough with someone else, but as it's been a while since I've been on my PS3 I can't say for certain so I'm not sure what's going on there.

You should seriously look into getting a Playstation Plus membership, $18 will give you 3 months of "rentals" and they have a pretty good selection out this month

I did initially look at PS+ as it's a great deal, but I'm not that interested in the selection they have so it will probably work better for me to try and cobble together my own.

@Pterion: How about the HD Collections, there cheaper and have more than one game?

  • God of War Collection.
  • Sly Cooper Collection.
  • Metal Gear Solid Collection.
  • Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection.

Ah, I'd been meaning to pick up the Ico collection for some time now but it had completely slipped my mind. Thanks for reminding me!
