So i'm pretty sure my Slim PS3 just broke while i was updating to firmware 3.40. It has a red flashing light on the power button and when i attempt to turn it on it attempts to boot and then goes back to the red flashing light. Is this a known problem or did my system just break for no real reason.
@Heartagram: there are a few courses of action for you.
It could possibly be a problem with data on your hard-drive, if its possible for you to format your hard drive through a pc you could possibly fix it, but you assume your own risk.
If you know anyone who is good at tearing apart electronics, it might just be a hard drive failure, in that case a new hard drive would fix your issues.
Or you can send it sony and pay mad cash, unless your still under warranty of course.

I don't think you need someone that's good at tearing apart electronics to get at a PS3 HDD. Isn't there just a little door you open to get to it or something?
" This console generation is the worst. I remember the good ole days when you bought a console and it actually held up until the next consoles release. "
@JJWeatherman:@Rehehelly: Tell your sweet lies to both of my broken dreamcasts. Man those things were engineered poorly, one tiny fan to cool the thing.

Never owned a Dreamcast. I was more talking about the NES, SNES, Genesis, and systems like that. Those seem failproof.

Yo... check it out: my launch PlayStation 2 still works. Ten years, still going strong.
All the old consoles used to be good for it, apart from the Saturn. That thing was terrible. What was the cartridge slot even doing there to begin with? Nobody knows.

Every single one of my friends who owned a PS2 had to buy a replacement at some point.
My PSX broke, but my Saturn is still going strong like my 16 and 8 bit systems. 64 is still working too.

That is AMAZINGLY terrible luck. But as I said before, I was talking more about the real early systems.

My NES is still going strong. I miss when things worked forever. "
I bought a Game Boy at a thrift store for a dollar and it still works.

And I own three broken PS2s and one barely working one. They used to get dusted weekly and were never around kids. Technology fails!
My nine year old PS2 is fine but my PS3's BR drive is pooped. Dreamcast is fine but my N64 had the worst cabling ever, I assume most people didn't lug theirs back-and-forth between their friends' houses like we did, but my cousin kept his in one spot and the power adapter thing broke twice on his.
All other consoles are packed up in places unknown, I cannot vouch for their quality at this time.

Actually I did between my mother and father's houses every week. I ended up buying two power/AV cable sets for whatever was my primary system at the time and leaving one at each location. I do the same when I bring a 360 or my PS3 to a friend's house, except everything's HDMI and generic power cables now, so it's a lot less of a hassle to find more.

Haha, yeah, mine too. Although it doesn't have the plastic screen and it doesn't have the door that closed the battery tray. But hell, it's working!
Don't worry, I heard Sony are releasing a new White PS3 Slim and that will fix everything! Why the fuck can't people make decent systems? I actually haven't heard of the Wii failing.

But you do need someone that's good at tearing apart electronics to make sure it is the HDD and not, say...a fried CPU.

Quite honestly I have never owned a Nintendo console that has failed. Still have an SNES, N64, and a Gamecube that are going strong. However I think the battery in my Super Mario RPG cartridge is failing since all of my saves are gone. One of my favorite games EVAR!!!

That's because after the first month of owning one nobody turns it back on... :P
