The Far Cry series is on sale right now on steam and I noticed that Far Cry 5 was in the top 10 best selling games on steam which surprised me because I personally feel that New Dawn is the better game.

New Dawn is almost the same game as 5 (its the same map), but New Dawn added crafting, base customization, more weapons, and replayability to the outpost takedowns. If you are thinking of playing or getting 5, do yourself a favor and just pick up New Dawn

P.S. You totally get superpowers from a fruit about halfway through that game.

I mean, I already have Far Cry 5 and I enjoyed my time with it; looks great in 1440p ultrawide. But I do like some base building of which I may or may not have seen in the quick look, so I might was well give those kinky motherfuckers even more of my money.

You can have both for a Uplay+ subscription and you can probably beat them both in a month, anyway. I like both of them in a vague way, but neither of them are going to hit anyone's all-time FPS rankings.

I bought Far Cry 3 and 4 on PSN last night. Never played a Far Cry game before. I'm like an hour into Far Cry 3 and it just feels very old. I'm in the middle of like 5 other games right now, and am tempted to just stop playing. But I know it's kind of a modern classic, so I'll try to keep going. I hope it gets better...

@rorie: If only my whims would allow for me to beat two games within a month, even with the current situation where I'm spoiled for options to keep myself relatively sane. That, and Uplay+ might have been a bit more valuable for me if it launched well before I got most of their games of interest though Ubi30, Notre Dame, Epic's freebees, when The Division 2 was $3 back in March, the usual Steam, HumbleBundle and GreenManGaming sales, and duders posting their spare Humble codes and spotting other promos.

@zero_3: Maybe it's because I played 3 since months after launch and 1 and 2 beforehand, but 4 and 5 are basically 3 with some alterations and visual upgrades. I mean, sure, 3 visually and it's engine scream late 2012 and the modern console versions being limited to 30 frames doesn't help, but that's kind of it when everything is boiled down.

Oh damn i don't own FC5, weird, thanks for the heads up.
New Dawn's aesthetic kinda puts me off, like a colourful Mad Max, seems like it would be full of eye roll moments.

@zero_3: It doesn't. If you don't like it by now then you will probably not not like it later on.

I completely forgot New Dawn was even released. They have put out way too many Far Cry games.

I dunno. I would probably say don't play either ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I haven't played New Dawn but Far Cry 5 was so bad that I don't think adding a few extra mechanics would be enough to save it.

I think I would have enjoyed New Dawn in a vacuum but being a follow up to the story of 5 killed it for me.

I want to play either, but find them both unplayable on my Xbox one x, I try to not be a frame rate snob but as pretty as it is in 4k, I can't hit a dang shot in that game and it makes me queasy.

@insomniak08: having played both I'd definitely say don't play either. 5's issues are well known already, New Dawn had me almost rolling my eyes out of my sockets.

I consider both to be the low point of the franchise so far.

I really enjoyed Far Cry 5, though I recognize its stupidity. I had a lot of fun with that game.

I haven't played New Dawn, but I was kind of done with "post-apocalyptic" shooters at that point. Maybe I'll go back and play it eventually

It feels old because it is old, and is the game that widely popularized the Ubisoft open world template. Far Cry 5 is a better game than FC3, but also FC5 is basically a prettier FC3. If you don't like it at the start, it's not gonna change your mind, and whether or not you like any other FC game boils down to whether or not you like shooting dudes after messing up a ten-minute stealth section and then spending some skins/points to make a new wallet, all while some highschool-ass pseudo-philosophy is babbled in your general direction.

I'm going to be a contrarian and say the added grind and "functionalities" to New Dawn was not a good thing. It's just way too much busy work, and with the annoying villains I'd say FC5 is the better game. Just stay clear of the DLCs, as that shit was boring as hell.

Edit: I also agree that FC5 is a better game than FC3, but let's be honest, the series is getting stale as fuck. And instead of getting fresh they're just piling on more "Ubisoft-the-game" shit.

@zero_3: I'm like 5 hours into 4 and feel the same way (which is probably not what you want to hear)

The only one of these i finished was 3. It was good at the time, but it's systems have been beaten to death since.
