If you're in to point-and-click adventures I highly recommend Broken Sword: Shadow of the Templars for the NDS. If you prefer a more casual puzzle game, the Professor Layton games would be nice to kill some time with. Of course these games requires a bit more out your intellect than Plants Vs Zombies, but I'm sure you can handle it.
Cave Story is shareware on Mac. VVVVVV was pretty good, but a little short. I've found a bunch of short games that are great by looking through the entrants of the indie games festival. One that I can remember from there is called Cave.
