I finally made a video about my recording setup for game footage, so you need to check this to answer your gosh-darn questions already! If you have any more questions feel free to ask away (not that you should).

Nice video. I'd really like to setup a method for recording video from my consoles but really I'm far too lazy. And poor. Also, you need at least an decent computer to properly record, right? Mine's a pile o' shit.

Also, suggestion: more star wipes.

Pretty cool, it's a shame recording in HD poses so many issues plus being quite expensive.

Youtube can't go over 10 minutes either -- rending most of my videos useless. Viddler: completely free.

I use a dazzle too. How do you get your videos to be widescreen?

Certain users get that ability. Not sure how it's decided though.

Anyway, question for you ultima. Is the set-up the same if I use the HD part of the cables? I'd assume a change would exist, since you're adding more to the equation.

Users who had signed up before a certain date are able to create videos longer than 10 minutes. I believe the change was implemented sometime in 2006.

@vinchenzo
The same would apply for component cables, but obviously a different capture device supporting the 5 inputs would be needed, and more of those splitters (unless the device lets you out to tv already). I do have an interesting 3-way splitter that has the three colors of component video, but I'd then need tons of others, and I'm not even sure I could input those 3 into my one composite video input on the dazzle.

@HairyMike87
To answer your question, I don't capture game footage in widescreen. My camcorder is 16:9, but for the footage in this video I used after effects and put a feathered mask in between the standard 4:3 game footage and my 16:9 recording of my hands. It's a neat trick, if it wasn't so time consuming I could do it for all my match videos.
