Should Jeff Gerstmann appear on a late night talk show?

I was watching the late late show with craig ferguson the other day and his guest was Notch, you know that guy that made minecraft. It was a really funny interview and it seemed as though both craig and notch got along really well. I really like the style of craig and his show and conan are the only things on tv I watch besides football and soccer games.

Today an idea popped into my head and I imagined Jeff gerstmann going to the late show with craig ferguson and just talking about video games and other random stuff. I think this would be possible since Giantbomb is part of the grand CBS interactive label. The late show with craig ferguson airs on CBS, just imagine if this happened!

Also, has Jeff ever appeared for an interview on national television? I think he might have been on a morning show talking about the dreamcast a long time ago.

I don't think Craig Ferguson really cares about video games- they're just what's popular- and I get the impression (like all talk shows now) he has to remain relevant by discussing them in one way or another.

Minecraft is huge and they would be silly to ignore it. The video game industry is huge as well. Almost as big as the Movie industry (if not bigger, it's hard to compare as their balance sheets are still significantly different).

Jimmy Fallon seems like a gamer, at least in some regard (if even casual since I'm pretty sure he's a busy guy these days). I'm not a fan of him or anything but I get why he looked at video games and decided to make it a regular focus on his show. It's both forward thinking and part of his generation (he's not much older than me).

Craig Ferguson and Conan are not video gamers. Conan has admitted as much and found a small way to focus on games somewhat and still make it clear he doesn't really know anything about games. He didn't have to, but he did. That's why he's so cool.

I have to admit, I don't know a lot about Craig Ferguson. He can be funny sometimes, but I suspect if anything his view of games is from his kids. I don't really get the impression he would know much about them.

So, what I'm saying is; Late Night talk shows want the big guns. We're not at a level yet where niche video game website personalities will show up on late night. Jeff did the Good Morning America spot for dreamcast as an "expert" (probably a very random call they got and someone said "Hell ya"), and does spots on random web sites and TV still from time to time. One day he might show up on a late night talk show, but right now I think that's just reserved for the big guys like Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and big players like Notch.

I believe Giant bomb can be that big, but they really are not yet. The only way Jeff would get on one of those right now is if he happened to meet someone on one of those shows or they got that random call again for the video game expert. That would actually be cool because it could provide more visibility for the site which is always cool.

I don't think that Giant Bomb is as relevant to the mass consciousness as Minecraft. Meaning Jeff should start his own talk show.

I think he should, but that is because I know who he is and how funny he is. Most gamers, let alone people that watch late night wouldn't know Jeff from any other random dude. To those people, I might as well be on a late night talk show because they know me just as well as him which is to say, not at all.

Jeff is definitely the better fit for the format, but Vinny's so damn likable that he could be a great ambassador for the site, and video games in general! We love Jeff's curmudgeonly ways, but will that amorphous blob of humanity known as "the general public" see past his demeanor and into his video game and Tokyo Drift loving soul?

Actually, new plan: We sneak Drew into the late night circuit by claiming that he's actually Michael C. Hall. Nobody will be the wiser! Vinny can then show up as his co-star in the new Showtime series "Giant Bomb", where Drew plays a large explosive that only blows up other large explosives, and Vinny is his unassuming brother that is also a bomb-disposing robot.

Fun fact: Jeff told Diane Sawyer that he was George Clooney, she believed him, they banged, then he split for the coast.

I feel they should do a proper show to come after "Unprofessional Friday" that is like a talk show. Just 30 minutes but solidly done and with interviews and such.

Crazy thing about that appearance is I watched it while it was live. Huge Dreamcast fan here, and I remember my mom saying they're talking about Dreamcast on the news. Had no idea who Jeff was then, but it was awesome seeing the amazing graphics at the time. The jump from PS1, Saturn & N64 to Dreamcast was a huge one.

I hope Giantbomb doesn't go "mainstream." The language would be the first thing they'd have to work on to open the site up to a bigger market. I think a lot of the innuendo and such would be dropped very quickly as well. I could definitely see Jeff doing that stuff on the side, but I don't see Giantbomb in its current form taking over that role. I'd hope they would create an off shoot, maybe through gamespot, to do the mainstream coverage.

Giantbomb doesn't have to go mainstream. I could see them do a video game talk show just like everything else on this site. Hell if it had to be on tv though adultswim would be a good fit. It would be like The Eric Andre Show except about video games instead of weird comedy. I'm sure that wouldn't happen though because of different stuff between CBS and Time Warner (owners of adult swim), but some tv is made by one production company and broadcast by a channel they are not affiliated with so who knows? I sure don't.
