Ignore the pun I accidently made and please answer truthfully.
I hear keeping it standing up gives it more ways to use it's fan while I haven't heard much of laying it down...
Which way should I keep mine?
Vertical means there is more pressure on the disc drive when it spins, which is what wears them out (it's the same for the PS2/3, those shitty old HP PCs, and anything else that works on that principal.
Air circulation probably is worse when it is horizontal, but unless you're laying it on carpet, some other soft surface, or outside in the dirt, I don't think that is really too much of a concern.
I managed to fight the urge to make a dumb joke. Yay!
@Tim_the_Corsair: Is that so? I need to adjust my Wii.
I think it looks better standing up, but it's a Nintendo product. You don't really have to worry about it breaking.
Both my Wii and PS3 stand up vertically, the Wii just looks cool standing up in that stand at an angle. I heard talk around the playground though that standing the 360 up vertically scratchs discs? So I've always had that horizontal.
Why are you so worried about the fucking thing breaking jesus.
It's a nintendo console, it's cheap, and it's going to be even cheaper in like 6months.
The options there, put it how you like. The thing comes with a god damn stand for a reason.
I just, I just can't comprehend this question. I'm going to bed.

I don't know if your trolling or really are that idiotic.
If your Wii is standing up for more than four hours consult your doctor.

Of the next generation consoles, my launch Wii is my only console that hasn't broken.

Noooo!! Don't go to bed!! We wanna listen to you be dumb asshole some more!!!
I don't have an opinion on the matter, but I feel compelled to tell you you're playiing the wrong console, asswad. Throw out that piece of shit and buy a real manly console for real men that you can play Call of Duty on like the manly man you wish you were. Nintensux.
Either way works, really. It's merely a matter of preference.
Though I will say, if you have some wired GameCube controllers and plan to use them frequently for certain Wii games, it's better to place the Wii horizontally.

"Ahm a manly man because I play with virtual guns and so should you! Anything else is for PUSSIES." :3
Real shotguns are so loud. It's not the kickback I mind so much but the volume, even with earplugs. It has no relation whatsoever to the collection of sprites in Doom resembling a shotgun. Game preference cannot be used as a metric for determining one's masculinity, although it could be argued they're an insight into how secure they feel in their masculine identity. Real men give no fucks over playing Viva Pinata, they just do it if they want to. Plant a few flowers, then fight Nazis.
I still say horizontal orientation is better for the hardware and C_Rakestraw brings up a good point. If those cables get snagged do you really want to test the Wii's aerodynamic properties? That would be an unfortunate thing to have happen. Laying it flat would at least give it a shot at keeping planted.

Absolutely. Use a GameCube controller with a vertical Wii and it could end up on the floor. Nobody wants that, aside from a few people in this thread who got lost in their way to System Wars.

while wii're on the subject, do your guys' wiis' disc drives make a very.. physical.. kind of clicky sound, every time it's loading something off the disc? - new to wii and don't want this party to end
Hey Cam, didn't look to see if anyone else answered this, but that clicky sound is all natural. Totally part of the greater Wii package. It just means a great experience is on its way.

Take it you never used a PSP. Now that's a terrifying sound at first listen.

Not quite. The difference in the pressure is not all that great. IMO vertical is the way to go with the PS3 and the Wii. Much better heat distribution. I noticed that when the PS3 is vertical then there's a large amount of heat that gets trapped on the bottom part of the machine. When looking at it from an engineering POV then it becomes clear both those systems were designed with a vertical positioning mind frame. Different story when it comes to the 360.
My launch Wii has been alive and kicking while standing up since I got it. However, it does have fairly frequent disk read errors, though only when booting up a game, never while playing. I've never really had the space to lay it down horizontally.
Yo Dawg, I heard you like your Wii so I lay down on my side standing up and took a Wii on your Wii with my Wii so it and you should be golden.

I think I know what sound you mean and I've had them since day one. Should be normal operating noise from the drive.
