I never understood why people claim three to be the best. World was better in every imaginable way and didn't have as many frustrating moments (last world ships were just bullets everywhere). World had tons of secrets and i still believe the cape is the best power ever in a Mario game. Also, who doesn't love colored Yoshi's?
SMB3 is the better game, the levels are more interesting, the extras more creative and the graphics are better. The one thing SMW has going for it is the worldmap, that is the best of any Mario game and the amount of secret passages is amazing.

I'd assume they enjoy the simpler Mario experience and probably prefer the level design. SMB3 did have some cool worlds.
I dont understand what some people see in SMB3. I think SMW is a much better game, but maybe that is because I played SMW first and I grew up with that game.
@MasturbatingestBear: Yoshi is what makes it too easy... You don't get hurt when knocked off and if you're any good you can catch him right away again. The Special levels were pretty cool except for the gimmicky ones.
Super Mario World out did Super Mario Bros 3 in almost every way. More power ups, bigger world, more secrets, multiple paths. Not do downplay SMB3, it was a great game, but SMW was better.
