So I was wondering how many of you guys actually like to make or even use custom covers for your games. I just finished working on my first one and I like it quite a bit. It's for one of my favorite games, Alice Madness Returns. I know I could have gone all minimalistic and and kept all the logos and text off, but I wanted it to look as much like a legit cover as possible. All the text and information is also correct if anyone was wondering.

So if you guys do use or make custom covers, what are some of your favorites? Post em up!

EDIT: Just created a Wii U version of Bayonetta (and Bayonetta 2) since the first game doesn't come with it's own box in NA:

I probably should start doing this, I take such awful care of my games, this would encourage me to keep them displayed and safe instead of thrown all over my place. And I like photoshooping rather a lot.

Nice work though!

This and over time I've lost all ability to use Photoshop in any way. Cool idea though.

This one time I couldn't find the case for Shadow of the Colossus so I just stole an empty 360 case, took out the cover (I think it was for a burger king game) and put a piece of paper that said the game name on it.

that's as far as I get, honestly

Great work. The only thing I would expect in box art is for the characters to have the same face on the front and back and be somewhat of the same art style, but I do like it. I don't really know much about box art since I buy almost everything in digital form.

At a glance -- you misspelled "separately" a couple of times and it should say "photosensitive seizures" instead of "seizured". Those are the only 2 that stuck out, but I didn't read the whole thing.

I'd do it if I had nice paper that looked like a game cover. I bought Yakuza 3 used and it didn't have a cover so I printed it off the internet, and the paper in the game case made it look like it was stolen.

Nice work man! although it really bugs me that the text on the backside is not aligned.

That is pretty amazing, do you print them onto snazzy glossy paper too?

Also, you should make a second version and just COVER it in box quotes from reviews around the internet!

I should probably do that for Silent Hill 2. It's the only game on my shelf that has generic used game box art. (FF13 and 13-2 only look like they do.)

I printed off a case for Gears of War. Never made a custom image. I do like that Alice Madness Returns cover. My favorite level and custom in the game.

I've made fake boxart (just the front) using photo editing software but I've never made an actual cover that I could use.

Pretty cool idea, I might make some fake ones for my digital games so I can have the best of both worlds.

Really nice art also, good job man.

I make custom art for music for my iPod (usually for video game soundtracks). I usually don't go to much effort for it other than finding the one perfect image (that invites me to want to listen to it - as well as being unmistakabely that game). I can see how enjoyable it would be to do it for games as well but I haven't gone that far. Seems like an interesting thing to do one time as I have interest into going into video game design - and box art is a part of marketing for it (so trying out different versions of current games would be a useful activity).

I've only really been tempted to use them on games without cases and just use generic cases.

I wouldn't know where to start. I would love some custom box-art for my games, but I don't even know what paper, dimensions, or anything else I would need to print it.

The text blurb at the bottom is all taken from the 360 template so I didn't write most of that. Also I don't have the helvetica font so I can't really update it. I already had to edit out some of the text through some tricky means because it was taken from the Halo 3 box. But thanks for the kind words!

Sort of.

This is the rabbit hole I've gone down lately:

Steam Icons!
Steam Icons!

Once you make one, it's really hard to stop. I'm going through most of my installed games and making replacements for the icons I don't like. Some I'm leaving as is though, like Binary Domain.

I'd hate how normal paper would look in the case, which is a same, because a lot of the more obscure games I've played have truly godawful art.

Then they put the whole thing on Netflix and started releasing seasons on Bluray...

Nah I barely look at the box art anyway, it's usually just the 5 seconds between taking it off the shelf and putting it back.

Was working on another cover because I recently got a brand new copy of Bayonetta, but the cover was all damaged. However I'm having some problems with this one. Can't figure out what to do on the back cover with regards to the text or screen captures or what. Does anyone know of good screen shots for the back cover that work with that color scheme and preferably have no hud?

If normal paper wouldn't look so cheap in the case, I would definetly replace the crappy "Sold Out Software" covers of the first American McGee's Alice. Though now that I'm looking at it very closely, even that above "Nier" example would probably look better in the end...

Yeah I used to. Would get some nice glossy photo paper, print it out, cut it, and then fold it into the case. There was this one nice Super Mario Galaxy custom cover that I just HAD to use it was so awesome.

No, not for games. I rarely replay games when completed. I have printed some custom slip covers for DVD/BD movies, which are notorious for hideous slip cover art - most often showcasing floating celebrity heads. My justification is frequently replaying the movies I own and seeing those cases in the process.

Looking though that NeoGAF thread makes me want to replace my current covers to more minimalism ones. I would do it but there really isn't a good place for me to print them out at in this deadbeat town of mine.

I have not and probably won't get a chance unless there somehow magically becomes a way to do it for digital copies of games.

You should totally keep that font on the back! I don't know what it's called, but in my mind I'm calling it the "Led Zeppelin font" because that was the font used for the song list printed on the slip cover for Led Zeppelin IV (which is of course one the greatest albums of all time).
