I loved the original Sonic Adventure on Dreamcast, and the DX remake on Gamecube; unfortunately reviewers are going to town bashing this game, and criticizing it's camera flaws, control issues, etc.. That would be fine, except most of their complaints are that "there's no DX features". But right under the download for Sonic Adventure, is a 400 point add-on called "Sonic Adventure DX add-on".
Why can no reviewer seem to find this option? I want an unbiased review on the game as a whole, not the bare-bones version that everyone seems to hate on so much. Sure it's crafty to squeeze an extra 400 points out of consumers; but even for 1200 points, that game's well worth every penny.
Sonic Adventure DX content on XBLA totally ignored.
The reason they complain about those missing features is because those features are in an add-on. The review of the game is based on the original game, and gives the reader an idea of what they are paying for when they buy the game.
Yeah, and what exactly are those DX features again? Oh yeah. That totally stupid mission mode and the ability to play as Metal Sonic when you get every single last emblem. I'm not quite sure how these "features" could make the game any better.
I get that the reviewers have a job to do, reporting on what exactly it is you get for your money, but there's no mention anywhere of the DX features being available. That being said, I have no idea if it improves the game or not.
I fully agree that it's BS that they didn't just release them together, but I don't want to spend frickin' 1200 points if the DX add on does absolutely nothing.
Has anyone bought it with the expansion?
I think the graphics and gameplay changes where actually made to the western and "international" versions of Sonic Adventure on the dreamcast, all the DX versions had extra where the missions and on consoles, some old sega games. I bought the DX add on, aside from the extra missions and metal sonic there isnt anything different gameplay wise. Still enjoy the game but there are some very dodgy glitches carried over from the dreamcast/gamecube/pc versions.

" @ArbitraryWater said:Actually, they were game gear games. Which makes it almost as bad, although I'm pretty sure the Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog battles with the GBA port for sheer awfulness. In any case not something to consider a plus when writing a review." Yeah, and what exactly are those DX features again? Oh yeah. If you watch the Quick Look of Sonic Adventure, you'll see that Jeff actually checked for DLC and there was none. If the DLC is not available at launch, it should come as no surprise that reviewers did not acknowledge any of it. How are they supposed to review something they don't have access to?
@odintal:
No its not a bad port, its a perfect Dreamcast port but that was glitchy too, i guess it comes down to how much you enjoyed the original, i played through from start to finish and really enjoyed the game even with the walls you could fall through and the bad camera angles. If you liked the dreamcast game you cant go wrong with this version.
Does it really matter when its a terrible game? Its like moaning that the Game Boy version of Shaq Fu lacks a character from the Mega Drive version.
