Sony dropping the ball on FF13 Advertising
This is probably their biggest third party game, it's weird they wouldn't try to lock this down in North America and let Microsoft get it's name attached instead of theirs.
" Sony has for a while been focusing their marketing campaign towards their first party exclusives, while Microsoft has been advertising third party games that may or may not be exclusive to their system. "Yeah I know but you think they would make an exception for FF13
" mmm, just to add a european side to this discussion, here in the uk (and i think europe in general) Microsoft has a 250GB final fantasy 13 bundle coming out. Not sure if they have the advertising contracts for it here. "That bundle's also coming out in America.
If I had to guess, I'd assume Sony has already figured that most people who want this game will be getting it for PS3 anyway. And they're probably right, but that doesn't make their decision not to do any branded advertising any less odd.
" @Andorski said:Marketing FFXIII would mean less marketing for their own title: God of War III. It would kinda suck for Sony Santa Monica to see their game pushed aside by their own publisher and have a third party game be their main focus." My guess - Sony is banking on the consumer mindshare being "Final Fantasy is a Sony game," whereas Microsoft is trying to counteract that line of thinking.
" If I had to guess, I'd assume Sony has already figured that most people who want this game will be getting it for PS3 anyway. And they're probably right, but that doesn't make their decision not to do any branded advertising any less odd. "They might be right about that, but I would definitely get it for the 360 if I did get it (PS3 is new, and I have more friends on my 360, etc.). And I am sure that, if Microsoft pushes it hard enough, they will probably make pretty darn strong numbers for the game. I still think that Sony should carry FFXIII a bit higher, as it should be perceived as a Sony game, but because Sony lost exclusivity on it (like they did for GTA4) Xbox is trying to make it worth their while.
there focusing on God of War 3. MS is in the position of possibly being the version that sells the less (a very rare predicament for them) so they have to market the hell out of it.
This would've been a good opportunity to bring the special-edition FF13 PS3 bundle to America. Those bundles hardly ever make it over here! The 30 bundle is pretty lame in comparison: just a white 360 with a copy of FF13 in the box. Even Modern Warfare 2 got a 360 with a special color job!
I don´t really think Sony is not taking FFXIII seriously... Their name does not appear ´cause the ad is about MS´ bundle... I'm quite sure that's the whole reason behind it...
They don't need to, people other than us will see the ads, see final fantasy, and instantly think, "oh, it's that final fantasy for playstaion" regardless if they see microsoft plastered all over it. For once, microsoft can't use their shitload of cash to buy themselves whatever they want. I'm buying it for my ps3 rather than my 360, soooo does sony need the advertisement?

"You may think that but the fact is that the majority of console owners in NA, between the PS3 and 360, own the 360. Much of the PS3 userbase is in Japan where the 360 is barely selling at all, and the 360 is still ahead of the PS3 by between 5-7 million units worldwide. I know that we are on a video game website, but that's because we follow things and know the difference. When just regular people or gamers who just don't know as much about games as others see that the game is also coming for the 360, which as I've said the majority of NA console owners have, then it will definitely sell.
What I'm saying is that you don't fall for their advertisements because you know better - regular people who don't follow games don't know better.
microsoft are advertising it because they paid square an f-load to kill the exclusivity to sony, or at least that's what im thinking. if they've put up the money for it, they need to make sure they get the most out of it. hell, most of you in this topic have said you're going to buy it 360, and why you would is beyond me, other than to seem non-conformist or rebelious or something... (2034582340 discs, apparantly runs at a lower resolution, not to mention they were making it for ps3 for years before they started porting it to 360, its still basically a ps3 game), but im sure a lot will still be getting it on ps3. there was a huge uproar when they announced it was coming to 360 as well because a lot of people bought the ps3 mainly for final fantasy xiii. for that reason, sony don't really need to do much in the way of advertising it.

I'm sure the next thing you're gonna say is how FFXIII was butchered because of the limitations the 360 port put on it. That filth shouldn't be on giantbomb...
But as someone else already said....Mass Effect 2 is the RPG game this year...
I'll play FFXIII for sure, but I can already tell I'm gonna cringe as I walk through corridors into an anime scene....
"Wow, please go to a different forum... I'm sure the next thing you're gonna say is how FFXIII was butchered because of the limitations the 360 port put on it. "my appologies for having an opinion that isnt the most popular one among the 360 users, which as gabriel said is the majority of people on the forum. nevertheless, i was just venting some frustration and although my critisism was maybe not in the best taste, it doesn't make it not valid. ill be sure to abort the forum immediately for not being a sheep. oh and also... ffxiii was butchered because of the limitations the 360 port put on it. (no, i wasnt going to say that at all actually...)
Microsoft tends to try to make all there games exclusive... 1Disc FFXIII > multi-disc FFXIII.... RPGs tend to be smarter then most when it comes to there purchases.
And also it runs at a lower resolution on the 360? It's native 720p and the 360 will upscale that to 1080p which the PS3 can't. You're just talking about the uncompressed video and audio....
@KoduX450: I'm just slightly burned out on the genre, and after XII and the direction they were taking....XIII's design just feels odd and a step back...
" @RobotHamster said:Yea thats true I agree with you, but the majority of 360 owners didn't buy one for final fantasy. There are alot who will be intrested in it don't get me wrong, but if you look at the majority of people who buy a 360, they would probably rather play fps's. And for people who don't have either system, i could see it being close even with 360 having a bundle. The prices in the consoles are virtually even, the bundle may attract some people while the others may see getting the playstation for it as the better option. The ads will work for the average and less than average informed gamer, it could have a slight impact in the u.s., but I still don't see it making an impact on overall sales." "OMG FINAL FANTASY IS A SONY GAME! PEOPLE WILLS ONLY BUYS ITZ FOR THE PSTRIPLE! FINAL FANTASTYYYY HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON THE PLAYSTATION! NEVER ONCE HAS IT EVER BEEN ON A NON SONY CONSOLE, NOT EVER! NOT EVER!!! MS AND IT'S STUPID XBOTS CAN ALL GO TO HELL!"

My friend let me borrow Lost Odyssey and after I got one achievement I couldn't keep playing it just felt stale...
I played the Vesperia demo, it felt kiddie to me...and star ocean 4 has the worst voice acting and story.
EDIT: When I say Kiddie, I don't mean I'm too old for it. More like it just felt....too simple? It's hard to describe.
And I didn't see the article with Japanese developers getting mad, that's pretty funny though. What I did see is GameFAQs having a nerd fit when Bioware called them out though.
No need to turn this into a Western vs. Japanese debate, this topic is about Sony fanboys whining about Square Enix not being console loyal.(As if they ever were.)
" @Faint: No.....the problem is your opinion is ill-founded and fanboyish at that to simply say the 360 version is so inferior that it doesn't make any sense for anyone to get it, I have a PS3 and I'll get it on that but I understand why someone wouldn't, even with the choice of either console. For example it's just 3 disks...and disk swapping really isn't a big deal and just because it was being made for the PS3 means it shouldn't be on any other console at all?PS3 version has 1080p cutscenes and runs in 1080p throughout. Your argument in flawed in this case.

Uh, the cutscenes are 1080p, not the actual game.

You're right, it's just the cutscenes. I don't get why this is actually a "big" thing anyway - aren't most other PS3 games in 720P?" @KingBroly: Uh, the cutscenes are 1080p, not the actual game. http://blog.us.playstation.com/2010/02/final-fantasy-xiii-your-questions-answered/ "
It's not like you play the cutscenes. Having a difference of 720P and 1080P in a cutscene is not a big deal at all. It's the gameplay that matters the most.
One point that needs to be brought up is Sony's advertising of dante's inferno a multiplat game but 360 is never mentioned or shown at all in the commercial.
Edit: is currently trying to find the commercial the superbowl version mentions all the stuff at the end, but the most recent version's only mentioned sony.
That has more to do with EA trying to sell Dante's Inferno to people with a PS3 who they fear would just laugh at it and go "I"ll wait for God of War III"" One point that needs to be brought up is Sony's advertising of dante's inferno a multiplat game but 360 is never mentioned or shown at all in the commercial. It's also why the PS3 had the collector's edition and not the 360, they were hoping that people with both consoles that were interested in the game would get it for the PS3 so the sales wouldn't come in all lopsided.
EDIT: I'm one of those people with a PS3 who went, "I'll wait til March."
Microsoft did the same thing with mw2. I dont get why they bother promoting 3rd party multiplat games so much, when sony especially hardly promotes the games they publish themselves."
