I just signed on steam to find this advertisement in the store front. Anyone else a bit weird-ed out?
What was it that GameStop was removing from new copies of Deus Ex? Wasn't it an ad for some download service like steam? Yeah, this seems a little strange.

Nail on the head. Exactly what I was thinking.

In that case GameStop was worried about losing money to a competitor. I'm sure Valve worked out some sort of deal with GameStop to get these in their store.
Hope it comes to places other then the US. Relatives don't know what to get me at Christmas time so they just get me EB Games gift cards because they are one of those types that don't want to just give money and they know I play video games. So I end up with a EB Games gift card sitting in my wallet for a very long time since I don't buy anything not on Steam. Now I can just point them to this!
I asked about this in store last week because i heard a rumor it was happening and had some credit that i'd want to use for my upcoming gaming PC.
Without missing a beat, the employee replied "yeah gamestop bought steam so we will be selling steam credit soon".
I laughed out loud, which only prompted a confused look from him. He also said "yeah if you boot up steam you see the gamestop logo there on top and everything now"
I thought that was a pretty good one.

they should make it $60. i just looked at my steam to see and then saw black ops 2 preorder ad and it was $59.99. just say that people who want black ops 2 are going to need to spend $70 with the gift cards.
And that's exactly how they get you. :P
I really don't know what to think about this, its great that Steam is getting more attention... but I'm not a fan of GameStop at all.
I have been able to get Zynga, League of Legends, Nintendo, Runescape, and all of the other virtural currencies at my supermarket for years. How is it that Steam just got on to this.

This just means that more people who don't want to put their credit or debit card on the internet can buy Steam games.
IT's a good thing for Steam. Unless Gamestop finds some clever way to rip us all of on these Steam Bux I see nothing negative about it at all.
I enjoy this because I don't have to spend 5 bucks more to activate those stupid pre-paid credit cards.
Who is this for? Little kids without credit/debit cards but still happen to have gaming class pc's and money to buy games?
@cannonballBAM: Why? It's a great way for me not to need to make Paypal account, or have my credit card connected to another online account.

They don't use debit cards elsewhere? You don't have to use credit to buy games on Steam. I certainly never have.

I think the weird part about all this is that they are competitors. It would be like finding target products at Wal-Mart.
You really the think the difference between debit and credit is that important when the whole point is that people use cash?@Detrian said:

Orrrrr you could buy three 20 dollar cards for 60 bucks.they should make it $60. i just looked at my steam to see and then saw black ops 2 preorder ad and it was $59.99. just say that people who want black ops 2 are going to need to spend $70 with the gift cards.

...but by buying Steam cards from GameStop you are buying gift cards from Valve(an American company) at GameStop(an American company). Which in turn supports the American economy.
