I say Super Mario World...yup, way better.
Super Mario World or Super Mario 3
It's close for me, but I gotta go WORLD.
The short levels really do Super Mario 3 in verus World for me. I love the length and challenge of the later levels of World. While I prefer the Tanooki suit and Raccoon tail, I can't pick 3 over World. I now I'm in the minority, but I don't care.
I wish they would put Super Mario All-Stars on Virtual Console.
Probably Super Mario 3 but I loved Super Mario World as well. I'd say Super Mario 3 has the edge, as I grew up with it longer than SMW because of All-Stars.
Wow...two games that can truly be called classics.
I'd have to give the nod to SMB3.......but not by much.
Oh, good question. While I would say that World is a more advanced game and looks better and plays better... Mario 3 is... totally inferior. Fuck that game..,
Only kidding, both are great, World is better by a slight margin.
Definitely 3. The level design is perfect, great music and great aesthetics. I didn't like World all that much, but I have much less nostalgia for the SNES in general.
Also, SMB 3 is the best game ever.
3 all the way. It's really the best platformer game of all time. World is good too, but 3 is the king.

I AM THE KING!
(But 3 is better than World.)
@snake_eyes_ex: lol challenge in a mario game. lol
In Seriousness, SMB3 is the best. I loved its implementation of an inventory system as it allowed you to stockpile on power ups and damn...... I sure did love using flutes. I'd take flutes over yoshis.
SMB3 had the superior start screen as well. Lets not leave that out too guys. :)
World for sure, although 3 is a close second. I never had a snes growing up, so playing world at someone else's house was a treat for me. Now that I have one, I play it quite frequently. I'd say it's aesthetically my favourite game... Whenever I see that opening title screen I get a big dumb fucking grin plastered across my face.
I've beaten Super Mario World, I've even gotten 100%. I have yet to beat Super Mario 3, or even get to world 8 without a warp whistle. The difficulty curve for Mario 3 is too high, somewhere around world 4, when you're faced with a nightmarishly difficult platforming section, you ask yourself, "is this fun?". Super Mario World keeps the difficulty right where it needs to be and slowly ramps up, but if you are a masochist gamer, you can do side routes and secret areas to get to the hard stuff.
