Can someone recommend me a survival game without zombies, or cannibals or anything of that sort? A game where you are dropped off in a remote part of the world and have to build a shelter, find/hunt/farm food, craft weapons, meds, traps etc.

@j3ke7zt: I'm a big fan of The Long Dark. It's set in the Canadian wilderness and makes you deal with intense cold and hostile wildlife. It has a great look and some killer sound design, particularly when the blizzards start to kick in. There's no crafting shelters (well, technically, you can build a temporary snow shelter) but you can establish a "base" in one of the various buildings you find. Everything else you mentioned is a part of the game. There's even a decent story mode that's still being worked on, including a reworking of the first two chapters to make them a bit more interesting.

I’m not a big survival game guy, so this one might be too softcore, but I really love The Flame in the Flood...A LOT.

Sounds like you wanted something realistic and on planet earth but Subnautica mostly meets your description. It's one of the most engaging survival games I've played. Single player only though.

I've seen some coverage for Forager. Its 2d one that was made during a game jam with a full version coming next week I think. There is free version on itch.io and it looks kinda chill but fun.

I'll second The Long Dark. Ticks literally every box you have there. I fell off the story stuff immediately, but the free-play and challenge stuff is very well done.

There's a demo available for Salt on Steam. I didn't care for it, but you can't beat the price to see if it's for you!

Lost in Blue. Survival on a deserted island. No zombies, no cannibals. Have to eat, drink, sleep, craft, hunt, and gather. Several different endings.

The first game Survival Kids is on the GBC. Lost in Blue 1, 2, and 3 are on DS. Lost in Blue: Shipwrecked is on the Wii.
Enjoy if you play them.

Another throw in for The Long Dark. Others say the weren't really into the story aspect, but honestly for me the story aspect is why I actually like this unlike literally every other "rock and stick" game. I usually hate survival games, but the fact this has a story and specific goals for the player other than "don't die" makes it far more interesting IMO.

And if you DO just want pure survival gameplay, it has that in addition the the challenges.

Long Dark, but the wolves were pretty insane last time I played, and you run out of resources in a given area VERY quickly, so you dont get to do as much farming or crafting as I would like, but its still the best option. Subnautica is good but fuck the ocean man

Boob and dong sliders aside, I was enjoying Conan Exiles for 55 hours on Steam. The admin/cheat mode is easy to access in case you just wanna play with legos.

Another vote for Subnautica. I'm playing it now and it's really good.

Last night I was tooling around at a depth of around 100m. I came across a cliff that just plunged into the abyss so I decided to go over the edge. Soon after this creature I'd never seen before came out of nowhere and grabbed ahold of my little submersible. Scared the shit out of me. It started dragging me down into the depths, screaming in my face the whole time. The computer warned me of crush depth and hull damage until my submersible was destroyed. I found myself below crush depth of my submersible in the pitch black with nothing but a knife and an angry deep sea creature somewhere. I never swam for the surface so fast. Thankfully it left me alone from that point. Maybe it was too busy eating my submersible, I don't know. I made the 1+ km swim back to the little base I'd built, stored the resources I'd gathered, and built another little submersible.

Great game.
