My Favorite, a creepy OST that can also turn into a disco beat on a dime.

Castlevania is an easy choice, you pulled a good example for that one.

A way to embed tweets, if I were to guess.

People generally make a big deal of Yuzo Koshiro's SoR soundtracks, but I prefer the Revenge of Shinobi one for some reason. Also, I really like the SNES version of the SFII opening despite the Mega Drive one being more accurate. I'm weird like that.

Huh.

To be fair, it's hard to deny how hard this rules.

@evilnights:

I was referring more to the SNES version. For some reason, the arcade version's used more in memes and stuff.

Super Adventure Island

Final Fantasy 4 (2 US)

Silver Surfer (NES)

Phantasy Star 2

Actraiser 1 & 2 If you like Classical Stuff

Gradius 3 (SNES)

Axelay (SNES) and Thunder Force 3 (GEN) are only good if you listen to it while playing the game. Some tracks you can enjoy w/o playing, but not all.

Equinox (SNES)

A lot of the Tim Follin 8-bit stuff is good.

Plok (SNES) Beach Theme

Magic Johnson's Fast Break (NES)

Solstice Theme (NES)

If you consider C64 8-bit

Last Ninja 2 (C64)

There's a lot of good Amiga stuff out there as well, but I can't place anything right now, gotta sleep.

Neither of these are 8-16 bit, but close enough. And dammit, I share these soundtracks whenever I can, for that is my duty as a lover of MIDI soundtracks.

I'm not the biggest FFVI fan, but it has great music. Secret of Mana is another one that, while I can't name an individual song I like from it, I tend to really enjoy when I'm playing the game.

@falserelic Yeah Streets of Rage 2!

@zolroyce Yeah BlakeStone! Although Wolfenstein 3D & Doom's music was just as good.

This is a good song from Sonic 3 remixed by a fan.

Sonic 1 on Master System 2

Landstalker on Megadrive

For me, Mega Man 2 has the best soundtrack of all time. Actraiser was great as well. That was my first experience with Yuzo Koshiro. I think that Contra has great music. I particularly like the Snow Field level. Can't really think of anything else that particularly sticks out. Castlevania is great. I really liked Duck Tales' music. There is probably better music, but it probably came from a game that I never played. All of Mega Man 2's music is great though, so that gets my vote.

EDIT: I also really liked the elevator-musicy vibe of Pilotwings' music. F-Zero had great music as well. I should also mention that I had a Super Nintendo back in the day so I don't know too much about the Genesis games' music. It is likely that there was better music on that platform than what I mentioned above.
