Might want to mention in the opening post that if people go into any detail on their favorite ending to put it in spoiler tags.

That being said the ending to Red Dead Redemption cannot be topped. Simple as that.

Last of Us ending saved the game for me, very well done

Persona 4 is epic as well as ends with a fantastic farewell to the character

Journey made me cry, enough said

Bioshock Infinite blew my mind

Bioshock Infinite was pretty amazing as a recent example. But hmm, Darksiders was cool for what it teased and Saints Row 3's was just so gloriously silly. I dunno good endings just aren't really a thing games do, even the best ones tend to just be "ok".

I'm going to say Dishonored. I didn't mind that it ended up not revealing anything about The Outsider. It's not even a place I thought the plot would end up going so I wasn't disappointed.

Oh and if we lived in an alternate time line where Snake actually killed himself at the end of MGS4 that would be my answer. Could have been a great ending but all that stuff with Big Boss at the end was so silly and lazy.

Persona 3- Sad but satisifying

Portal 2- Just... so... good

Red Dead- All 3 of them

Bioshock Infinite- Wasn't sure if I liked it when I first beat it, but the more I thought about it the more I loved it

Mass Effect 3- I love how emotionally satisfying the ending was, how it gave closure to all the characters you knew and loved, and how it ended the Reaper thre... wait none of that happened. It was the worst.

Walking Dead Episode 5 is just so fucking awesome, it's sort of in a league of it's own. I specifically mean the after the credits part.

I recently went through Mirror's Edge again, and while the last level and story are just kind of whatever, that music at the end with that cool little pan over the city is enough to kinda remind you how special a game you just finished playing. It seems to give me goosebumps every time I beat the damn thing.

Then the Darksiders games both have a knack for good endings. Granted, they kind of share the same ending, but that fifth game probably would have been sick as shit.

And I'm kind of partial to the Ridge Racer 6 and 7 endings myself, mostly for the music I guess.

As for one of the most memorable, I was sorta blown away by the Mario 64 ending. It was the first big 3D platformer game I'd ever played, and I enjoyed the hell out of the entire thing only to be taken back through a picture in picture of a bunch of the memorable places I'd seen.

Loading Video...

Amazing for its time.

Another one I really enjoyed that wasn't so much an "ending" as much as it was being able to travel around the world post main story is the end of Earthbound. I found it super enjoyable to travel around to all the locales and talk to all the characters and NPCs after the game was beaten. I really loved that game -_-;;

As for more recent endings, Walking Dead really got to me. I also agree that Final Fantasy X had a pretty amazing ending. Actually, that entire game was great except for the final boss music. The last FF I enjoyed was 7 (didn't like 8 or 9 much) and the ones after X were also bad imo but man, X was incredible.

Walking Dead and Bioshock Infinite's endings both completely captivated me.

Besides recent examples though, I'd have to say Silent Hill 2's "In Water" ending is still really up there.

All of my favorites have been said, Red Dead Redemption, 999, Persona 4, Journey, and Biohsock Infinite. Oh, and the Walking Dead too. It's crazy that all six of those games have come out within the last five years. Video game stories are getting pretty damn good!

Well darn. I was going to say Red Dead Redemption, but it seems everyone beat me to it. For the sake of not beating a dead horse (ha-ha, get it?), I'm going to try to come up with something else... Don't worry, no spoilers.

- Braid's ending was cool, but only if you researched what the heck it all meant. I wish it had been a little more clear...
- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare's ending was excellent. Well... I don't think it's fair to really consider that an "ending", just a totally awesome final sequence. Truthfully, I can't remember what the heck happened beyond that point, except for a really terrible rap song.
- I always loved Ocarina of Time's ending. It was a delightful conclusion, but man... the fact that you have to reset your console at the end was just a terrible idea. I mean, I guess I get it, but still.
- Star Fox 64's was great. Probably even brought tears to my eyes.
- This choice may get a little flak, but... Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. What I loved about the ending was what happened afterwards. Getting calls from the people you interacted with in the game. I thought that was nice and added a great amount of closure to the game's story. I thought that was something San Andreas could have really used.- Metal Gear Solid 2 is another one I liked. I've heard people complain about it, but I thought Snake's speech was really great and moving.

I only just finished MGS4 last night, and man was that a great ending. Also, Red Dead Redemption and The Walking Dead of course. Also, the Black Ops 2 credits scene that just completely nullified any and all character development and emotional resonance at the end. That was so dumb I just have to admire it.

I can't really think of any ending that I thought was amazing. As a rule of thumb, I go into every game I play expecting the ending to be bad, because more often than not, the ending will suck. I guess The Walking Dead had a decent ending, though the epilogue bit kind of ruined it for me.

OH! I know! The ending to Diablo 2! Not the expansion, but the ending of the first one. I won't spoil it, but my 13 year old self was shocked at what happened, and even now I go back to it and I love it.

Fallout, 1, 2

Baldurs Gate Saga

Red Dead Redemptions

Persona 4

Portal 1, 2

Walking Dead

And Halflife 2 Episode 2 just has the most annoying ending of all times, WHAT THE HELL IS GONNA HAPPEN MAN... so maybe it deserves some credit.

Prolly more good endings out there, I liked the way Legacy of Kain: Defiance wrapped things up, but the storytelling in those games are just awesome all around. Think the endings to all Mass Effect-games are pretty crap, 2nd is prolly the best thanks to the suicide-mission-parts but the end boss battle drags the whole thing down for me. Same with ME1, and ME3 is just a big trol-lol-lol...

Persona 4 is epic as well as ends with a fantastic farewell to the character

Yeah a not at all awkward farewell to the character who can't even be bothered to utter a single word to his friends. Portrayed in a stiff anime where the characters look nothing like the ingame portraits.

Nanako: "I'l see you Big Bro, goodbye!"

Charlie: "HM!"

Ha ! Ha !

Also, World in Conflict. They finally got the CD player some batteries.

Bioshock Infinite probably has my favorite ending, and I really liked the whole last level of Halo. Also, I just beat Braid last night and my mouth was agape when I was going through the final area. That was awesome. I really wasnt paying much attention to the story cause i thought the book stuff was just a bunch of nonsense, but that part definitely made me think about the game from a different perspective.

I am stunned at how many people are saying Bioshock Infinite. But then, I thought the ending of that game was real dumb and not at all logical or anything.

But my answer will always be ending E of Drakengard. Because my favorite kind of endings are endings where the game flips you the middle finger in the best possible way. Nier's ending D was also great at this, especially if you get it before ending C.

What I'm saying is that all games should take ending lessons from Cavia.

The one that REALLY stands out to me is Red Dead Redemption since the final moment in the game is not even immediately obvious. You would even think the game was already over and they did the clever thing by making you play as someone else but....NOPE there really is a TRUE ENDING, and it was a classic! It's just a shame that @jeff did not like it enough to even finish it. :(
