Welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the best community-created works from the previous week.
Unfortunately, we have to talk about some negative news with this edition of the Spotlight. As many of you are already aware, recent orders for the new t-shirts started hitting homes and many were shocked to discover they were not printed as advertised. The site and managers of the store are aware of the problem and doing everything that they can to refund any and all impacted orders. The affected shirts are mainly the Temple and Tarot shirts, but we have also seen some issues with Cat/Yarn design being printed off-center and the Bomby shirt also looking far more plastic-y than anticipated. If any of these problems describe your shirt order, please email email@example.com.
You can also use the Giant Bomb Discord to get updates on the issue and reply to the Tweet I linked above to direct contact Rorie. For those of you that would like to avoid using Twitter or Discord, here's a link to Rorie's on-site post about the issue where you can learn about the problem, ask questions, and report specific issues for you impacted orders.
In better news, the staff are trying something different with UPF moving forward. As revealed during Unprofessional Fridays: UPF - 08/05/22, each week the site plans to have a "theme" for UPF and the participating staff will play a game that matches that theme. If you have any interesting ideas for a theme, feel free to drop a comment on the 08/05/22 UPF with an idea! With that out of the way, let's jump into the Spotlight!
I went through my collection and added over 70 accessories to the @giantbomb wiki in the last few days. So, if you wanna write a dissertation on the PS2 Horizontal Stand or something... have at it. pic.twitter.com/MsdYyZ0ylK— Brad Lynch (@MarinoV1) August 4, 2022
Today's blast from the past: version of the 2018 logo I had a few months before we launched the big redesign with it. Pretty sure this was in July, redesign went out in November. pic.twitter.com/HPaHhsz5sw— Dan Auer (@danauer) August 1, 2022

Jeff Jeff Bizarre Stardust Crusaders is finally happening and many, jearum included, cannot help but get a little excited! Using their ATHF version of Jeff B, they went ahead and got the man in the right spirit for what is ahead.
I don't know about you, but I thought the Oops, All Cenas?! Playdate is one of the best individual shows to ever be put together by the new staff. It was an absolute blast to watch live and it is still something I enjoy watching. Artist jearum obviously agrees with me, hence, this work of art.
For those of you that recall the 749th episode of the Bombcast, you might recall each of the staff doing their best Mrs. Doubtfire impression. jearum immediately thought of at least one video game character that likely would have put all of their efforts to shame.
Kone this week decided to have some fun with a joke from Jeff Grubb's Morning Mess show. If anything comes from it, then Jason will be in good company for once.
Krimsonkharne finally watched both seasons of Run for the Hills and decided to make a trading card for the "Cabbage Boi" in honor of Jess and Jan!
We have a fun exercise on the forums where many applying random nouns, verbs, and adjectives to their favorite video game cover art while using crAIyon. Join the fun by clicking the link below and here are some examples!

borgmaster continues their blog series looking at every single video game to release on the OG PlayStation in chronological order! This week you can read if ESPN Extreme Games or Kileak: The DNA Imperative have held up! (hint: no)
There seems to be a bit of a renaissance for Fortnite on Giant Bomb and Daavpuke is here for it! In fact, they took some time off from playing Fortnite to write a little bit about Fortnite and what keeps drawing them into the game.
Moderator ZombiePie wraps up their two-part series on The Journeyman Project 3: Legacy of Time and its puzzles this week! If you have any nostalgia for The Journeyman Project or FMV adventure games in general, give it a read.
Mento continues their journey into the world of video game OVAs, their game tie-ins, and vice versa with a blog about The Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love?! If you are a Macross fan, then this is a definite worthwhile read! Also, the latest edition of their "Indie Game of the Week" series is all about Legends of Amberland: The Forgotten Crown! Read if this party-based, turn-based western RPG, inspired by the games from the 90s has any legs
If you have never heard of Genesis Noir, you should consider giving Gamer_152's most recent blog a read. There are some spoilers latter in the blog, but you can learn how the Astronomy Update version of the game has a lot going for it.
Back when they were younger, cikame bought C-12: Final Resistance because they thought the boxart was "cool." This week they decided to go back to the game to see if their nostalgia has clouded their judgement of the game's real quality.
Here's a fun discussion thread that is open to everyone in the community! What television show do you think you have watched the greatest number of re-runs the most? Is it something recent or your childhood?
Has anyone checked out Returnal through the PlayStation Plus Extra program? Do you think the game is a good fit for PS+ Extra? What games do you hope to see in the future if Returnal is on the table?
There's a discussion on the forums debating if ether the Series X or PS5 have an advantage when it comes to multiplatform games. Some give the edge to the Series X for Game Pass and some prefer the DualShock. How about you?
To fans of sports games, what do you make of the current state of golf games? Do you think 2K is completely out of the picture? Is LIV Golf going to have ripple effects on EA's gold series?
Now, you might be wondering why a months-old discussion thread and poll is getting some shine in this Spotlight. Well, here's the backstory. After this thread got bumped I decided to link it to each of the new staff so I could see where each of them stood in one of the oldest debates in all of video games. Here's what I found:
- Tam said "I'm a World boy."
- Jeff Bakalar likes 3 more.
- Jan replied with Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2
- Dan did not answer the question but proceeded to threaten other staff members with a lecture on which game he thought was best.
- Jess and Lucy both replied that they did not have a pick due to lack of experience with one or both games.
MelodicVirus had a go at listing the ten worst video games they have ever played and there are some "gems" I totally forgot about until I read their list! Give it a read and don't forget to make your own list on the site!
camitalo continues to go back through the archives and made a 2017 GOTY list on the site after they realized they forgot to five years ago! Give it a read and see if you forgot to create GOTY list for years in the past.
aodhhinsai took up the task of trying to list and annotate every single one of their "game of the year" award recipients all the way back to 1988! Check it out and consider making your own list and seeing how far back you can go!
- @yyninja's The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD review shares how the game is objectively better on the Switch, but better graphics and controls don't change what they consider mediocre and ho-hum dungeon design or gameplay.
As you saw in the Tweets section, while watching the Quick Look for The Mortuary Assistant, someone Tweeted out that it reminded them of Giant Bomb's "Functional Toilets" concept page. I'll one them up ever so slightly and counter with THREE MORE of the site's "functional furniture" concept pages. Unfortunately, many of these pages have gone dormant and are in DIRE NEED of recent examples! If you are up for the challenge, click a page and add any examples you noticed are missing!
