The Greatest Video Game Console Of All Time?
I am going to have to go with the NES or SNES because 20 years from now they will still work. Nintendo stuff is built to last unlike some other current gen consoles who shall stay nameless.
" Other, because you never know what will be next. "If something like OnLive takes off then there might not even be consoles :/
- Super Famicom
My Own Ranking:
- Neo Geo
- Super Famicom
- Sega Saturn
- Dreamcast
- Sony PlayStation 2
- PC Engine / GT
- N64
- NES
- Sega MegaDrive
- PC Engine Duo
Atari Jaguar. Not really. I voted for SNES, but I guess the PS2 ties because of the sheer strength of its lineup.
Admittedly, neither of these is my favorite (That would be the N64), but they probably are the best.
SNES. These modern consoles can not compete. As someone else mentioned, they will break before they get the chance.
If you're late teen or early twenties, it's going to be PS2 or maybe SNES. Anyone older is going to go with the NES. People are going to say whatever system they were weaned on. Obviously, in a side-by-side comparison, the PS2 blows the NES out of the water, However, the NES was more revolutionary in its time, by far. No system, in fact, has repeated the shattering impact the NES had upon its release. It deranged my childhood, and that of every other young male at the time. You might say the PS2 did the same for you, but the difference is that before the NES, there wasn't anything like that on the market; the Atari was just kind of a toy--an excursion. To have actually lived a portion of my life without significant gaming, and then have it dropped in my lap, to see it burdgeon around me, literally mind-blowing--as evidenced by the fact that I'm 33 now, and still waste a great deal of my time playing video games and writing messages like these on gaming sites.
I don't find this true at all (Stereotyping is wrong mister) I chose the 360 because even though I have many of the systems in this list and I really loved my NES, SNES, N64 and Xbox Just looking back I just really think I have the most fun on the current gen stuff, so many titles that break away from the normal "Themes" that we got so used to, So many good games. And if the PS3 had Live and a better controller and Achievements with all the good stuff coming out for it now it may have even been my pick, but the 360 has a Huge collection of games, the best online console setup, fantastic controller, and it still looks damn good even though the PS3 is starting to completely kick its ass graphics wise I still have the most fun on my 360. But who knows maybe the next Xbox or PS will be even better." If you're late teen or early twenties, it's going to be PS2 or maybe SNES. Anyone older is going to go with the NES. PS2, there's just such a wide range and variety of quality games that it is truly one of the best. Of course the nes, dreamcast, n64 and others are incredibly great but the PS2 is really a great system.
The ps2, it had everything, first party games, all the third party exclusives, non stop over 90% gameranking games. It dominated the competition, the ps2 is my pick.
I'm sure there's many exceptions to that "rule." My brother-in-law's older than me and would probably pick the 360 as well. But I'm certain that the heavy distribution of PS2 votes relative to the other systems we're seeing here is a reflection, at least to some degree, of the age of the voters. Has to be. I wouldn't be able to say how much. Maybe we could start another thread where we attach age to the vote and then we could find out? That would be interesting to see.
You're right, though, stereotyping is wrong and bad.
It's close for me between the Snes and the PS2.
The Playstation 2 is just fucking ubiquitous. It really set the precedent for mainstream gaming. Which is why I'd probably choose it.
N64, It just had some revolutionary titles:
OoT
M64
007
Perfect Dark... and it was just the most fun I had with video games.
Where is El Jugador?
I remember playing Dodgy Kong all nights. Not to mention the Kill Screen add on.
" In terms of pure gaming value the 360 wins by absolutely miles. Other consoles have had more quality games, but no console has had something as good as xbox live. "
