The hardest game you've ever played FROM THIS CONSOLE GENERATION

Also please refrain from using Demon Souls and Super Meat Boy, because most agree that those are insane with difficulty 
 
For me, it would have to be CoD5 Veteran, oh the pain... 
Kane and Lynch 1 (it was just unfair at points.) 
Killzone 2 the hardest mode (taking off the aiming reticule really took some adjusting :P) 
 
It doesnt neccesarily have to be a game you've beaten and thought was hard, it can also be a game you just gave up on (cod5 for me).

Mass Effect 2 on insanity was kinda brutal 

I want to say Demon's Souls, but that game is a cakewalk compared to Trash Panic on Hell. Even on Normal it's probably harder. Just beating that 2nd level on Hell took probably 15 hours of bombcasting over the course of two days. Even eventually I made it to the final level, but I turned it off because the fun had run out.

Devil Survivor. Grrr.

imma say ninja gaiden sigma, or super meat boy.  dmc4 is also kinda hard from what i've played.

If we are including difficulty settings then Left 4 Dead 1&2 are obvious contenders.

Farming Simulator 2010. Milking cows was so difficult. And don't get me started on planting canola...

Rock Band 1/2 when I jumped from medium to hard, then from hard to expert probably on guitar/bass (since we're not including DS or SMB)

I think the original Dead Rising was pretty damn tough.

The last 30 seconds of 'Green Grass and High Tides', still haven't finished that fucking game. The fact that there's no video lag calibration didn't help.

Resonance Of Fate. That game is a bitch and a half.

A distant, DISTANT and I mean FUCKING DISTANT second would be Devil May Cry 4.  Once I got Dante I was fucked, I couldn't play the game right anymore. 
 
For the record I have finished Demon's Souls, and didn't think it was that big of a deal in terms of difficulty.

Darksiders was so difficult at one point near the end of the game that I had to stop playing. 
 
The fight straight after the first Guardian in the Dark Throne is soul-crushingly hard. 
 
Most games aren't particularly hard, though. If it isn't a beat-'em-up, then it's likely very doable.

Nothing, because this "console" generation I pretty much played exclusively on my PC.

Devil May Cry 4, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, and N+ are some of the hardest I've completed.

Halo 3 on legendary solo. I dont know people do that shit, maybe I just suck at it :P

Well I beat World at War on veteran difficulty.  That's all I can think of really.

Playing, and eventually beating, World at  War on veteran gave me nightmares.

Goddamn Final Fantasy XIII. It's a breeze most of the game but some parts have such a huge in leap in difficulty its downwrit frustating. One moment you're dealing 999999 damage to every enemy no sweat and then the next oponent doesnt let you live for two turns. Bloody hell, FF.

Ninja Gaiden. I would say Demon's Souls, but once I learned everything there is to know about that game, it became pretty easy.

Okay, people will probably think I have never played a video game before, but I seriously had trouble with Fallout 3. I think I might not have been playing correctly or something, but I was constantly running out of ammo. I have barely played it to this day just because I consistently run into the same problems whenever I start over. 

Gears of War 1&2 are brutal when playing solo on Insane.

   How long did you play? In any case, it's just a matter of putting most of your skill points into your preferred death dealer, have a lot of different weapons and ammos. And judicious use of VATS helps a lot. 
 
 

Super meat boy, it was super frustrating and not at all fun (for me) to play.  I do enjoy games that present a challange but that just made me angry and i dont play games to get angry lol.

L4D2 on expert with Realism activated was fucking ridiculous. Took me like 2hrs just to get through half of The Passing and I never completed it. : /
