This is awesome. Thanks for the heads up Brad, and thanks to Games Are Evil with providing us with something like this. This kind of stuff really interests me.
The History Of The Video Game Industry, Flowchart-Style
Jesus tap dancing Christ Brad you wern't kidding when you ment "Tiny percentage of this monsrtosity". Its feckin huge.
It's sad seeing Westwood Studios on there... :( the made C&C what it is, and EA took it down the garbage
That chart is wrong on a few things that I can see:-
- No mention of Melbourne House / Beam Software, yet it shows Ocean being the progeny of Infogrames when in actual fact Infogrames purchased OCEAN as part of a collective deal which also included Melbourne House
- OZISoft was not connected to Infogrames at all and were an offshoot of SEGA of America called SEGA/Ozisoft back in the early 90s when SEGA tried to open distribution inroads into the SEA Market via Australia. Also they didn't program, only published localised versions of games.
- The EIDOS section makes no mention at all of Sales Curve Interactive (SCI) which is the company whom EIDOS came from after SCI took over what had originally been CORE (the company who made the Tomb Raider franchise).
" Activision owns Origin systems. Where is my new Wing Commander ??? Or Syndicate "Huh? EA owns all the Origin Systems IP, Including Ultima and Wing Commander. EA also owns all the Bullfrog IP, including Magic Carpet and Syndicate.
