Yo - I just unlocked the Magnum .44 in Battlefield 4 today. I think it's the most powerful feeling handcannon-like device I've ever fired in a videogame, and handcannons are per default the mostest of them all. Like I murdered a flippin' wall with a single shot of this thing (well, it was a ledge), just to more properly violate the sweetmeats of the foe cowering behind it. Just what a handcannon would do, if it had a mind of its own.

The animation, sound, rumble, and impact on environments and foes - it's all just so damn right. Watch some footage of it. Even if it doesn't quite translate via youtube video.

What virtual gun is the most powerful feeling -most rewarding to fire- according to you?

Halo:CE pistol is the most overpowered gun ever made and it was awesome. The zoom scope was such a ridiculous addition. Sniping people across the Hang'em High map is still one of the most satisfying mp kills you can get

Yeah - but can it kill a wall?

Specify "gun".

I feel like the Spartan Laser is by far the most ridiculously powerful gun.

I think the most powerful gun I ever wielded in a game was the Novalith cannon from Sins of a Solar Empire, which could fire a projectile, capable of exterminating an entire planet's population, from anywhere in a star system. I personally never liked using it though. It felt cheap.

The AWP/Desert Eagle combo in the older CS versions was kind of ridiculous in the hands of anyone skilled at using them. Quickswapping to a deagle and headshotting someone half-way across the map is probably the most satisfying experience I can remember when it comes to using guns in games. There's something about the guns in Syndicate that was really satisfying as well, it's a large part of why I enjoyed that game as much as I did.

Scarab Gun from Halo 2.

Also, I didn't like .44 on BF4, I prefer Compact 45 over it. But I can see where you're coming from OP, headshots with that weapons were so rewarding.

"The Redeemer" from the Unreal Tournament games is probably the most destructive gun that I can recall using. Haven't played all of the fps games out there but this shot a mini nuke so yeah.

It's more about swapping stories about guns of legend, rather than determining *the one* gun.

The Rail Gun in PerfectDark 64. There is no other argument. It had X-Ray vision, lock on, and could one shot.

I used to go into an empty map and see how long I could keep the mini-nuke up without running into something.

Oh, that's not what I meant. I was just curious as to what was being considered as a gun here.

Hammer of Dawn from Gears of War.

Hearing the beeping and the 3 lasers converging on your position is the worst feeling, cause at that point it's to late you know you're dead along with anyone remotely close to you.

I think dry wit and one liners don't go so well with that. The Magnum on the other hand?

AWP in CS. That was the one that pissed the most people off, it was great. You'd see servers upon servers listed with "No AWP/AWM" in their title.

Firing a shot with it was like cracking thunder.

The Ryno V in A Crack in Time is so powerful that it spontaneously forces the universe to play Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture.

The Calamity Cannon in Bastion is also pretty amazing.

Fat Boy in Fallout 3 comes to mind.

I think the experimental MIRV from Fallout 3 definitely tops it. It fires 8 simultaneous mini-nukes at once. So a regular Fat Boy is already powerful enough to one shot about any enemy in the game. One shot of the MIRV is just pure overkill and you will probably only ever find enough mini nukes in your playthrough to shoot it once. Also in a game as broken as Fallout 3 a weapon that powerful will strain your system to knees and probably crash.

So for the pure decadence of firing a single shot vastly more expansive than anything else in the game for nothing other than pure overkill and to see if you can break the game is my choice for most satisfying powerful gun in video games.

In terms of realistic weapons(no spartan lazer etc) I think the Raging bull in R6: Vegas 2 is pretty beefy, the Desert Eagle in that game is awesome too.

BFG or experimental mirv are definitely in the upper scale of powerful guns in gaming, but awp from cs still takes the cake for me. That insane "BOOM" from your speakers when you fire it off is so satisfying.

I was thinking the same thing. Sadly I think the reason is because we are "old" enough to remember the BFG.

The R.Y.N.O. V from Ratchet and Clank Crack In Time. Hearing the 1812 Overture blare away as rockets and shrapnel go flying all over the pace is so much goddamn fun.

Runner-up would be the Dubstep Gun from Saints Row for similar reasons.

Edit: Hah, I just went back and read some of the comments and I'm glad to see the RYNO getting some love.

The RYNO in the Ratchet games is ridiculous. In A Crack in Time it would fire out hundreds of bullets all at once and constantly fire missiles while playing the 1812 Overture. The new RYNO VII in Into the Nexus is even more devastating now you can add mods and plays another piece of classical music, Night on Bald Mountain. They refer to it in the store as an "intergalactic mic drop." I can't really disagree.

My thought as well. I feel like if we had this conversation 10 years ago anyone who didn't mention the BFG right away would be labeled as insane. I mean people are listing guns that one shot people. The BFG would destroy every living being in the room and you didn't even have to aim. I dunno how any gun could possibly compare to that, at least in MP. In single player as someone mentioned we've had guns that destroyed entire planets, but as far as guns that really feel powerful the BFG just has to be at the top.

Also if we are only talking real world weapons then the AWP/Desert Eagle combo in CS would have to take the cake for me. I don't think I can think of a more rewarding gun to fire than the desert eagle.

BFG, kiddies. Though if you went with "satisfying" I'd go with like 5 different guns from RE4 over anything else, starting out with the Red 9.

Add me to the list of old folks, I guess - I saw the thread title and my immediate thought was "BFG, duh!" I like @icemo, I just kept scrolling, amazed that nobody had mentioned it.
