There is a culture of firsts on Giant Bomb

Getting dat first comment on a giant bomb video is an achievement. And it actually used to be an achievement. So now dose first comments get deleted? Is this against the rules? What is this world coming to?

Whenever I can I will get dat first.

I didn't get enough sleep last night because I read "culture of fists" and I'm kind of disappointed in this thread now

I unknowingly got a first post achievement for an I Love Mondays video a couple of years ago. The notice popped up and it was the greatest day of my life.

"first" posts getting deleted is the one form of censorship I can get behind.

I got a first one. It was a such a rush, a high I will forever chase.

I did think it was plenty stupid that they incentivized getting the first comment with a quest and then they punished anyone who attempted to get it. That takes some doublethink to pull off and think you're being reasonable.

People who try to get first posts are the ones who come last at everything else in life.

I once got the first 3 or 4 comments on a video and even had a small conversation with myself before someone else commented

It isn't anything special - it has been a thing on internet forums for a long time. Thankfully dying out a bit now.

They thought that by making it an achievement - but one you don't get if you actually say "first" - they would kill it off. Didn't work. Personally I would just delete anyone who typed "first" :D

If you said "first" in your comment, you wouldn't get the achievement. That was actually pretty funny.

For some reason I read both of the OP's posts in Jeff's dumb "rap" voice and it was hilarious.

I keep reading the OP thinking it will make sense the next time.

Ironically almost no one ever cared about "first" comments on GB, until they decided to start giving achievements for it (and those that did occur from time to time were swiftly dealt with).

It essentially had a reverse effect and amount people trying to get the first comment with valueless posts skyrocketed.

The forum rules specifically categorize "first" posts as spam:

NO Spam: Includes but not limited to: promoting personal sites, making comments which have no discussion value such as "first" or "bump", quote pyramids or empty quoting, quest spam, YouTube spam, "chat" threads, and creating any threads with little to no text where off-site content is linked or embedded. This includes starting forum threads to promote your latest podcast or written review on another site.

That's why you'll see valueless comments like that continue to be deleted.
