Now, I did have an idea few minutes ago... but it's out of my head for the moment. I'll edit the post when the idea comes back to me.
So, what would you change about the gaming industry?
Things you would change about the gaming industry?
" I'd have every console manufacturer and game developer to "re-manufacture" consoles and games, so that people who missed out can go buy a Dreamcast or a Neo Geo and their library of games without paying an arm and a leg. A ridiculous idea, I know - but still one I'd like to see. "That doesn't sound too bad actually, though it will probably never happen.
Word. I'd also ban cut scenes right when you start the game. Or you know what? Cut scenes as a story telling device in games needs to go crawl up in a cave and die. Games aren't movies." If anyone ever made a game with cut scenes they would have to be interactive and/or skipable. "
- Adult themed games getting designed for adults and not kids.
- Stop the trend of PC games getting short changed in too may ways to list.
- Seeing more turn based tactical RPG's get made, specifically for the PC.
- Stop with all the Warcraft clones and games set in a fantasy setting.
Wow guys. You hate guns, you hate explosions, you hate Microsoft, you hate cutscenes, you hate Activision. Why do you even play games?
They hate them because they are awesome, and apparently is cool to hate things that are awesome on the internet." Wow guys. You hate guns, you hate explosions, you hate Microsoft, you hate cutscenes, you hate Activision. Why do you even play games? "
Delays i hate when games i get delayed.
Monopolize, every game through me. MUAHAHAHAHAHAH
I don't think there is much to realistically change for me, without removing the entire business aspect of the industry.
So uh, I'll be the overseer of all games.
I would make it so that it would be illegal to release a sequel to a game within 18 months of the original. But otherwise, I am fine.
I would outlaw there being more than 3 sequels to a game
and outlaw the concept of planing a to have multiple sequels because I've heard 100s of times
game makers say we didn't put this in because we wanted to save it for the sequel
I hate DLC! Wait a minute let me explain.....Seems the trend in game production now is to wait until a game has gone gold, then remove 20% of the finished product to be sold separately (see Tomb Raider) This is Bullshit. Capcom selling DLC that unlocks information already on the disc (See Street Fighter 4). This is Bullshit. But the worst by a mile has to be the trend of selling DLC that unlocks everything in the game for lazy people (See Skate 2). This is really bullshit! Remember a time when this was done with a cheat code? Have we got to the point where game companies think it's OK to ask for real money for a fucking cheat code?
DLC should be there to add to a game, not complete it.
" @Grimace said:Already has, dude! When the hardware patents for the NES, SNES, Master System, and Mega Drive expired it allowed other manufacturers to build legal clones of those systems. Just wait a few more years, and we'll have a Dreamcast clone on the way. Unfortunately that doesn't solve the problem of finding the software for a reasonable price..." I'd have every console manufacturer and game developer to "re-manufacture" consoles and games, so that people who missed out can go buy a Dreamcast or a Neo Geo and their library of games without paying an arm and a leg. A ridiculous idea, I know - but still one I'd like to see. "That doesn't sound too bad actually, though it will probably never happen. "
No more using false advertising like bullshots, rather it has to be real screenshots. I'm mostly talking about ps3 screenshots that looks nothing like the screenshots released after the game is out. Of course there are other games that are every bit as responsible like fake forza 3 screenshots, however it's mostly ps3 screenshots because real screenshots looks aweful and dull on a 256mb gpu for textures. They want to post screenshots of what they wish their games looks like rather than real screenshots. I want it to be gameplay screenshots with a hud and life bar and everything, not cutscenes or renders with no jaggies at all.
I would abolish pre-order bonuses.
I would also want developers to focus less on graphics but I'm not sure if that would fly with the average buyer.
-Competition in the retail market instead of just Gamestop.
-Less rehashes, more originality.
-More support of original games. Abysmal sales for Banjo Kazooie N&B and Valkyria Chronicles disgusts me.
-No DLC.
-Less patching, a developer should actually finish a game before they release it.
-More retail appreciation of older games.
-Microsoft to stop charging limbs for accessories to make their main console package seem oh so cheap.
-Nintendo to remember about F-Zero, Pikmin, Kirby, Star Fox, Wave Race, 1080, and Donkey Kong, or make a new franchise.
-Sony to put PS2 software BC back in PS3s. It works fine, and there's no "it costs money" excuse to be had. IT'S SOFTWARE.
-People to stop saying digital distribution of full-length games is the future. It is a short-term convenience and a long-term waste of money.
-Less gimmicky motion controls. For most games, it is just a tacked-on feature. I'd like to see it done right more often, in real games, or not done at all if it isn't necessary.
-Less idiots who insult other platforms with no valid reasons and claim to be a fan of games.
-Less lazy ports.
I could think of more, but this is enough for now.
- The idea that video games are just for kids and that they make kids violent (thanks to the media and older folks)
- No DLC (not likely)
- Rhythm games on a 3 year cycle rather than ever year (or every couple months with guitar hero)
- No more stupid fantasy games with elves, orcs, etc.
- (Remastered) Goldeneye released on 360 and PS3 just to screw with Nintendo
- Every franchise available on every console
- Complete removal of exclusivity / timed exclusives / exclusive DLC
- And in general for game companies to actually have some balls and break a few boundaries socially through their games (Iraq War game, etc)
Primarily for gems like Shadow of the Colossus, Portal, Braid, World of Goo, Mirror's Edge or Wii Sports Resort.
I strongly agree with the guy that said non-interactive cutscenes as storytelling device in gaming needs to crawl into a cave and die.
" @ArchScabby said:can somebody explain to me please, whats wrong with activision ?" Activision gone. "I approve of this decision. "
I've only seen their logo on the best games ever
" @Hitchenson said:Read up on Bobby Kotick and how he, " wants to take the fun out of games"" @ArchScabby said:can somebody explain to me please, whats wrong with activision ? I've only seen their logo on the best games ever "" Activision gone. "I approve of this decision. "
He got rid of a bunch of activision games because they can't be "exploited" every year like COD and Guitar Hero. If it was up to him he said he would raise the prices of games even higher. Look how they run franchises into the ground. Do you know anyone who still wants to play a Tony Hawk game? Noticed how about 8 Guitar Hero's come out a year? It will end up crashing into the ground the same way I guarantee it.
I would get more creative people from outside the game industry into the game industry. Left to our own devices, we seem to make realistic games that defeat the entire purpose of the medium. So, instead, get someone creative from outside of games to oversee the world, concept, et cetera. That'll be when we get actual innovation; when people with new ideas have avenues and resources to see these games made.
" Wow guys. You hate guns, you hate explosions, you hate Microsoft, you hate cutscenes, you hate Activision. Why do you even play games? "I didn't know that was all there was to gaming.
- Pre-order bonus content
- DLC
- Timed exclusives
- Exclusive DLC
- Better support for BC - (I'm talking to you Sony!)
- Less Patching/More quality assurance
- More creativity/Less Waggle
" I want to see less emphasis on console innovation and more emphasis on just making good games or helping developers make good games....I just want to see more good games!!!!! "Are you going to buy GunPorn Sequel 23: Revenge of the Explosions? Then it's partly your fault fresh ideas and clever designers will continue to not get funded.
" I hate DLC! Remember a time when this was done with a cheat code? Have we got to the point where game companies think it's OK to ask for real money for a fucking cheat code?I hear what you are saying but apart from Tomb Raider I can only think of a couple of games that could be accused of this, and a handful of games does not constitute a trend. As for the unlocks in the past you would have to buy the magazine with the code or a game genie, so you would still pay, and in either case wouldn't you rather just play the game and earn it? In the end both are completely within our control as consumers, meaning if nobody buys it they'll stop selling it that way.
DLC should be there to add to a game, not complete it. "
