Anyway. Those games the OP speaks of are still there to play. Go play them. They get the occasional update. Quake Live. Neat. Go play it. Etc. Somehow I don't think next-gen will suddenly see a rush to the bare basics of gaming like Quake for you to wish this to end. Same as last gen.

Your first post reminds me of something I read before. Some dude was pissed off that some kids where playing "Nintendo's new handheld whatever it's called"(DS) when they probably didn't even know about the gameboy. Well guess what, ignorance is bliss. They don't know about the gameboy because they werent alive, you have no reason not to know about the DS.
