This isn't a thread about motorized vehicles.

So, have you read the caption underneath the Walking Dead video? It goes something... Like this:

I guess spoilers here too, maybe. I mean, insomuch as any game trailer is a bunch of spoilers taken out of context.

Yo. That's a profound statement right there. Are you ignoring game trailers to avoid spoilers? Are game trailers less spoilerous than their movie equivalents?

I try to avoid trailers in general. Especially the CG ones. Yuckers. But sometimes I get dragged into the hype train, and foolishly absorb all trailers and screenshots they have to offer. Sigh.

I ignore trailers for games and movies and anything. As soon as I know I want to play it, I don't want to see promotional material.

I do the same thing. I like to go into games and movie with as little knowledge as possible.

Spoilers don't really have that large an impact on me, unless it's a really good twist. I remember having the Usual Suspects spoiled...it still hurts. Trailers are fine though.

Ordinarily I still watch trailers for a game I'm excited for because they don't often spoil anything severe, and it's great to also check out more of the gameplay that's usually weaved in. Something like the Walking Dead game, though, where it's all story, I'll be avoiding the trailers for.

EDIT: Though with that said, I feel like RE6 has exposed like half of the story already with its trailers...

Actually, just as an example, my most proud moment in Spoiler Avoidal was knowing nothing about Mass Effect 2. And holy shit did that beginning catch me the fuck off guard.

This is a kinda funny topic, cause sometimes the spoilers in trailers are intentionally misleading, making you expect something that never happens.

Spoilers in trailers are usually insignificant to the unknowing consumer who has not yet played the game.

Only once you know the story can you really go back and pick out the spoilers, and thus they do not really matter for most players. They are simply too quick or lack context in order to be real spoilers. Also, most games do not have stories meaningful enough for a spoiler to reduce the enjoyment.

Uncharted 3

They edited the trailers to strengthen the idea that Cutter was going to be a villain. Hell, they even placed him on the side of the villains during the beta.

Oh, and Resident Evil 5:

The Bird Lady's identity was so-very-almost revealed during one of the trailers, showing off her hair, to give the impression that it was Sherry Birkin. But instead it turned out to be Jill Valentine all blonde'd up.

I typically stop watching trailers for games I'm interested in several months before they are out to avoid any hint of spoilers.

And yes, I do believe game (and movie!) trailers show way too much.

I used to watch a lot of trailers for games, I don't anymore for some reason. No I usually try to filter the majority of trailers out and focus on finding pure gameplay.

I don't really think that trailers are too spoiler-y, sometimes you get a spoiler, but most of the time it's enough out of context that it doesn't really spoil anything for me at least.

I try to avoid seeing too much stuff beforehand, just in case. Trailers and promotional material SHOULDN'T give anything major away, but the people cutting the clips together don't always do a very good job in that respect (sometimes through no fault of their own). I think the best example of this being a potential issue was with the movie Quarantine (the Hollywood remake of REC). Note: If you haven't seen either movie, then you might not want to read this next bit.

Every trailer, commercial, and poster for Quarantine that I saw straight up showed the ending of the movie. A huge part of the tension of the film is in the close encounters with and narrow escapes from the infected. The whole thing climaxes with her finding the patient-zero/source, only to get dragged off screaming into the darkness by it in the very last shot. That shot was in all of the trailers and on every poster. I know that you don't really see the context necessarily, but when a lot of the movie relies on the uncertainty of a character's survival, showing their death is not a good idea.

I have a burning hatred for spoilers, so I'll usually only watch CG trailers for games. I might watch one or two bits of gameplay footage just so I can get an idea of how the game operates, but I'll cut myself off after that.

As for movies, I like going in knowing as little as possible. No expectations = no disappointment!
