Watch out for Trees vs Manuals, the upcoming iPhone game I just announced . If you buy within the first day, you can also get manual and cloth map delivered to your home. And the delivery guy will cut down one of your trees.

I think the tree's gonna win

I am not okay with getting rid of manuals, because whether it's Xbox 360, PS3, or PC, I need SOMETHING to read while installing the game.

Seriously, fuck this decision.

Manuals just aren't what they used to be and are kind of pointless with things like in game tutorials and knowledge bases.  The manuals were a different matter when they included art and illustrations when the actual in game art wasn't nearly as good.

TREES. Stuff like technical support information, health warnings etc can just be printed on the box!

This would normally be a tougher call, but game manuals just aren't what they used to be. I think the practice of inserting lore and background information into in-game codexes has become widely accepted, and most in-game tutorials suffice so I guess this was inevitable.

I vote tree! i love me some manuals but nowadays most games come with crappy manuals that are black & white with only 5 pages. If we keep getting manuals like that i say just put the manual on the disc.

Edit: Can we have full cases back now because holes in boxes are stupid. Make the cases thinner, smaller, recycled products  i don't know because boxes should not have holes in them unless something is alive inside.

"Current leader - Trees"

Well aren't you smug, Trees. But day by day and forest by forest, we'll cut you down and we, the Ancient Brotherhood of the Manual, will have our way in the end! Mwhahahahahahahahahahaahahahahaha!

It's fine with me if manuals go away. Manuals are a relic of a time long past wherein games were poorly designed and did not communicate game mechanics to the player. Most games now provide adequate in game tutorials for those that need them.

I like my manuals. I always read them before I start up a game. It's part of the new game experience for me.
It's admittedly not that useful these days, because they made them into a little pamphlet with health and safety information and explaining how a controller works more than a manual.
Last time I remember using a game manual to look something up was not that long ago, for P3P, looking up what the status effects did exactly.

I like manuals, but a digital version is fine. I intensely hate when the "manual" is 3 pages long and two of them are the user agreement.

I don't care about manuals, if you care that much about how to play the game than buy a strategy guide.

If you can't get the hang of the game through the tutorial or by hitting options and control scheme than you probably shouldn't be playing games.

Don't Believe The BULLSHIT!!! They are doing this to save money, not the environment. Paper is a  business like any other, and since we plant the trees we harvest for paper these days if you want more trees then waste more paper. Even stranger recycled paper is worse for the environment than new because of the amount of chemical waste that is produced in the  recycling process. Don't believe everything hippies tell you kids.

I think we all know it has nothing to do with trees and everything to do with the cost of writing, editing, and producing a manual.  There will still be about 3-5 full color double sided leaflets in every EA box for download codes and advertisements.  The going green line is an outright lie and no one actually believes it.  What it tells me is that EA has such little respect for their customers they don't deserve any in return.
