This week's budget in the UK has promised tax breaks for the UK gaming industry, resulting in more resources to the various development studios and publishers here. The British government until now has refused to acknowledge our industry as worthy to receive tax relief, however Chancellor Alistair Darling confirmed that incentives previously available to other media (Film) will now be available to those working on games, now that the government has recognised the significance and revenue generated by the trade.

This move recognises the economic and cultural contribution made by the games industry which is set to be the driving force of media in the 21st century. The UK has an international reputation for creating some of the very best games. Talented UK games professionals are at the heart of the global industry and are key to the financial success of many internationally renowned games companies both in the UK and abroad.

About time. Maybe now we'll see a influx of better British games now that they can devote more resources and manpower.
