I usually wake up on Saturday to the show archive being up but I don't see one this week! Did they take Friday off because of GDC shows this week?
Unprofessional Fridays last night?
Unprofessional Fridays used to be really great. I remember those couple weeks when there was I Love Mondays, Podcast Tuesday, Professional Wednesdays, TNT, Unprofessional Friday. Content like crazy and it was going to be awesome and instead it has all unraveled and I don't know what I'm doing with my life anymore.
You'll probably need to wait until Monday, if it makes you feel better the galaxZ quick look is the first hour of the UF.
@listerfeend: For some reason am not seeing it today. :(
@piratenipple: you can watch it at giantbomb.com/chat, it starts about an hour in
So the Unprofessional Fridays was posted Saturday night (though it was dated Friday night as if it had been up the whole time) and I managed to download it to watch it later (I still don't trust the video player and also watching it in the player is dependent on my roommate not torrenting). Now it's gone again (found the URL in my history, it gives a 404).
I watched the downloaded version of it, seems totally fine, so I don't think they had to re-encode due to any AV problems. Was that build of Crawl not meant to be publicly shown/streamed yet or something? That's the only thing I can think of.
Btw, Crawl looks fucking awesome, aside from the part where the boss fight didn't look properly balanced. Seriously, you know the human has to be level 10 to even face the boss, and all of the boss damage seems incredibly low. But everything else in the actual dungeon crawling part seemed totally rad. Like, day one 4-pack purchase, my friends and I are going to play this so much.
Also it's nothing like Dark Souls, despite what Patrick's lead-in (and some comments on the game's trailer) would have you believe. You're not invading and it isn't PvP. It's a PvE game where players get to control the E, which is awesome and more games should do that (sort of like Counter-Op mode in Perfect Dark which was fucking crazy).
@indieslaw: Jeff acknowledged how Unprofessional it was that they recorded a QL EX within UPF, so yeah, maybe they've edited that part out and are running the video through the compressor again without the first 30 minutes? Whatever, I just skipped ahead past the Galak-Z part having already watched the separate video they posted for it.
The version I downloaded ended abruptly while they were deciding if they wanted to continue playing Towerfall. The video was 60 minutes long.
@melting_window: Yeah the version up earlier this morning was 1:05:54 before it cut. They were having issues with the uploader earlier, so that's probably why. Seems like some of the quality versions may have been fine and some of them not. @bisonhero What version did you download? I was watching the High quality and it cut.
I assume the same reasons we've been getting later QLs and other videos is the same reason this video was pulled.
Also remember Drew was on vacation, so Vinny worked the QLs, a long ass live show, and everything else on his own mostly.
So just be patient, I'm sure everything will be fixed and put back up in due time.

I downloaded the HD version, and it's 1:55:58, it didn't cut out at any point, and the audio sync was fine. Issues must've been with one of the other video qualities?
Edit: Actually, the sound may be slightly out of sync, but I didn't notice because they actually played interesting games this week so I wasn't really looking at their faces, mostly just watching Towerfall and Crawl.
Man, I hope they soon get to hire some new behind the scenes guys/gals. As much as I love Vinny's shenanigans behind the camera too much is depending on Vinny and Drew right now. It's basically like this: If Vinny or Drew aren't there nothing will go up, with a few exceptions being bombasticas and so.
I downloaded it and saw the entire thing. It's pretty tight for a UPF, especially if you cut out the QL EX of Galak-Z. Towerfall looks neat, not quite as intense as Samurai Gunn, but Crawl man. I am so buying Crawl, day one.
@finaldasa: Drew was only out on Monday.

Yeah. I made the mistake of watching up to when they got to Crawl and then stopped so I could save it for when I had time to watch all of the rest. Sadly, when I got home, it was gone. Sadness.
Any word on when this will be back on the site? I couldn't watch on Friday and have been looking forward to watching it. I was hoping it'd be fixed once everyone on the east coast was back today
I kind of think this UPF would have been a good one to make free for folks. It was kind of a mix of a quicklook, quicklook ex and Unfinished at various parts, and it didn't have as much messing around as most UPFs do. I hope at least the Crawl dev had some way of watching it, cause one of the review quotes on the steam page should totally just be "Ooooh I'm a ghost!"- Giantbomb.

yeah exactly the same thing happened to me
@alternate: most big sites have people that work weekends.
Bear in mind that GB's site and GameSpot's site processing and uploading processes are still likely to differ technically (where else would the resource come from), and Giant Bomb are their own brand, so personally I would prefer to wait for their take on how it's produced. Not being able to upload content from a fucked video feed has to register for them in terms of what-if scenarios I guess, but if the tech let them down and it can't be fixed satisfactorily, then I wouldn't post it at all and do a weekday "special" instead. Also they are hiring.
@mekon: I only understood about half of that. It isn't as if this hasn't happened before. It is the system they (Vinny/Drew) put in place. Sometimes the encode is bad and they have to do it again from one of their numerous backups. So it goes up a day later. It just took a bit longer this time due to the weekend. The wait isn't going to kill anyone. Archives used to take much longer to go up, we have all gotten spoiled.
I know they are hiring. They need more bodies. The point remains that it is not lack of staff that caused this delay.
@minivan@alternate Ok I got a couple of comment attributions confused before.I think it's sufficient to say that GB have been through a lot over this last 30 months or so, and staff numbers are shorter than they should be. I'm not sure I'd look to them to work on weekends though unless there was something very big upcoming, GDC itself was important last week.
@alternate: most big sites have people that work weekends.
A freelancer covering breaking news maybe. I doubt they have video producers on call over the weekend. I know gamespot doesn't. Remember the charity weekend GB did recently over the weekend? Rest of the place was deserted.
@alternate: most big sites have people that work weekends.
Giant Bomb isn't a big site.

Giant Bomb isn't a big site.
Even small sites have people working on Mondays though.
Listen, guys, even they have been giving a vibe of "Shit be Fucked" until the hire new people. They are understaffed from what I understand, plus they still don't seem to have had their equipment replaced since they got robbed at E3. Dave, Patrick, Ryan and Ian, which adds up to half their staff, are gone (well, Patrick isn't really gone, but he is basically running a Let's Play youtube channel at this point.)
On the up side, we did get a huge stream for GDC with drunken shenanigans, Particularly Dave Lang going into Andy Capp mode.
They don't have the staff Whiskey Media had, nor the freedom and flexibility it provided. Remember, they don't own the site like they used to, thus the budget is in the hands of bean counters for CBS. Anyone that has worked in a corporate job and needed to secure a budget will know that it takes months, sometimes years, to justify things like new hires and upgrading equipment. Jeff has said that once he gets people to man those battlestations, they have plans to do more, just gotta get that step done.
I think it'll be fine, just needs more time.
For those wondering the video may, might, should, maybe, perhaps, was foretold, prophesized, chance of, if the planets align, small business owners agree... Top men will have it up tomm. As posted on Twitter:
'I don't know why it never went up, but hopefully it'll be up tomorrow! Sorry for the delay.'
