Poll VIDEO CARD TIME (268 votes)
I'm still on a 1080ti which is a fine video card for all intents and purposes but I need...more. There are a LOT of new video cards hitting the market in the last few months of 2020, including the impossible-to-find 3080, the fresh (and maybe findable?) 3070, launched today, the overkill 3090 (twice the cost for 10% more power!), and at some point soon we'll have benchmarks for the AMD Radeon RX 6800XT, the 6900XT, and the 6800, all of which are promising 4k/60 framerates or more in games like Gears 5. There might also be an announcement for a more budget AMD card coming at some point as well, and theoretically there might ALSO be a new Intel Xe card coming along too, but it's probably that'll it'll only be in pre-built systems for a while.
WOW! That's a lot of cards. I would like a 3080 to match up with my Gsync monitor, but those are pretty much impossible to find unless you're buying from a scalper (please don't do this). Apparently the cause of the supply issues with the 3080 is that it uses GDDR6X memory as opposed to the GDDR6 memory that most of the rest of these cards (including the AMD cards) are using, which is apparently causing some supply chain issues over there. I'd be happy with an AMD card, which look to compete well on a price/performance basis, but I don't know if it'd play nice with my Predator monitor? The Gsync/Freesync stuff is so weird and wonky and very difficult to google easily.
Of course, the other factor is that the AMD cards might just...come out and be available to buy, whereas it looks like the Nvidia cards might be out of stock for most people until next year, just at a hunch. So many choices!
Are you in the market for a video card?
