What particular video game soundtrack do you most commonly listen to when not gaming? I.e. when you work out, study, go shopping or commute for example.

I often find myself turning back to Shadow of the Colossus when studying or reading, Silent Hill 1 and 2 when out for walks and son on.

Deus Ex, MGS4, Freedom Fighters and Wipeout HD are a few I have listened to a lot while doing the usual everyday tasks.

Currently checking out the FFXIII OST and game music written by Hans Zimmer which always gets me pumped before a workout.

Modern Warfare 2 has great treadmill music. For all the perfectly valid criticisms you can level against it, it does have an awesome soundtrack.

Video Game music out of gaming, as opposed to Video Game music not from gaming?

OT: The only actual songs I think I own from a video game is Braid's soundtrack, but that was mostly licensed music anyway . Gotta love Oblivion/Elder Scrolls OST though.

If I listen to game music while not playing a game, lately it's been Bayonetta or Scott Pilgrim. Occasionally I'll go to Guilty Gear though.

I never, ever listen to game music on it's own, and I can't understand why anyone would want to either.

@Bongos: Nope...while I may like some video game music (emphasis on some), I would never choose to listen to any of it while not playing the game it was composed for.

Well, there is some music that after I beat the game, I go "Man, the music in this game was pretty awesome!". Then, instead of booting up the game and going to a specific stage/level to listen to a particular piece again, I'd just listen to the song on YouTube or find the soundtrack.

Thief soundtracks. The ambient is pretty awesome on its own, Eric Brosius is a genius.

Shit, I've just reminded myself he won't be scoring Thief 4. What a travesty.

Emperor: Battle for Dune soundtrack. Seriously it's one of the best OST's I've ever seen for a game that blew me away with tons of music composition by 3 dudes with their own style for their subsequent faction. Here's two of my favs, Tribute to Evil and Ghola.

Some really good pointers coming out of this. I'm most definitely going to check some of this out, e.g. the Battle for Dune soundtrack.

Super Meat Boy and Shatter are probably the best video game soundtracks I have.  Though I think my favorite video game-related music is the unofficial fan-created Chrono Trigger movie soundtrack.  Some pretty good songs built on an already good OST that really tug at the nostalgia for that game.

That's a great soundtrack. Hanz Zimmer is awesome. This treadmill business though...sounds like too much work to me.
