What games do you feel deserve a remake, and to which platform? I would personally say Earthbound (all 3 games) for 3DS or Wii U. What do you think deserves a remake?
Video games that deserve a remake
I just want to say Freespace: The Great war and Freespace 2. With any luck it'll sell like crazy and we'll get a Freespace 3.
I know they have it GOG (hell, I bought it the moment I saw it there). But, since this seems to be about remaking a game as a opposed to re-release, I thought it would make a good fit in here. If not, fine how about Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.
Threads that need a remake.
If a game is good it doesn't really need a remake does it (so much as a sequel)? I'd think this would be more for games that were close to being good but just missed the mark for some reason. Xenogears falls into this category methinks.
Legacy of Kain. The original was fantastic for its time. The others while good, kinda of butchered the franchise in the long run. I wouldnt mind if all of them went back to a top down old school Zelda game like the original. Regardless if they reboot they need to go for a more classical mid-evil gothic fantasy setting. Or keep them more in tone with the original. I might say Raz can fuck off as well and just leave him out of a reboot, least as a playable character.
by remake do you mean just a port, or a full blown remake? I think many games ought to have one or the other. Actually if I were to make a scale:
- straight port - self-explanatory, ho hum
- HD remaster - 60 fps makes it good
- port with changes made - This is where it's at.
- remake (same game, new graphics) - Waste of development budget, these somehow always turns to be terrible
- reboot/re-imagining - like DmC I guess
There's almost never a case where a straight port couldn't benefit from changes, or added features. Usually if I want one of those 5 it's because there are improvements I would have wanted to see made.
I would love a remake of the first Metal Gear completely redone with the Fox Engine and include voice acting with a bigger well written script.
This is a game that probably no one has heard of, but I would love to get Nightshade from the PS2 a remake for the PS3 and potentially the Vita. For those unfamiliar it's an above average action game/platformer. It's the spiritual successor to "Shinobi" for the PS2. Gameplay-wise it could not have been done better, balancing between holy-crap-hard and accessible. More importantly it is fun to kick the crap out of robots, demons and everything in between. Game could use a visual face-lift from the PS2 graphics though

The game is hideous..
But I have a question. Why did you choose Nightshade and not the PS2 Shinobi?
Secret of Mana and Lufia II. Especially Lufia 2.

That's funny because I think Shinobi is hideous. It's one of the most annoyingly hard games I have ever played. That wasp boss was the worst.
The old Impressions Games city building series. I had so much fun with Caesar III, Pharaoh, and Zeus. I would like to see a SiN remake. It was a flawed game, but it did have some good moments. Of course you have to include Thief 1 and 2 and System Shock 1 and 2.

Wow, what a blast from the past. Remembering this game gives me chills. Is that weird?

I can see them doing that as they got closer to that point in time. That would be the best way to end the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
@Fredchuckdave: Oh yes! Xenogears with updated graphics, muchly needed speed-uppable dialog, skippable cut scenes and a complete second half that doesn't just tell you what happened would be awesome! And require something like 300 hours to beat.
@RadecAU: I've always wondered why there haven't been more games like Crimson Skies. Though my experience lies mostly with the Xbox version. I don't think anything before or since has matched the feel of the flying in that game.
@Nictel: Lufia II got that DS remake/rebootish-thing where they turned it into an extremely mediocre action rpg.
It's never going to happen, but I would kill several cute fuzzy animals for any sort of remake of Resident Evil 2 done in the style of REmake for the gamecube, though I'm pretty sure I'd also kill fuzzy animals for anything good to come out of that franchise nowadays.
As for what else I would be into being remade, maybe some of the older Ultima games so I could actually play them without banging my head on the keyboard in confusion?
freedom fighters; nuff said. fuck while am here why not Conflict: Desert Storm. James pond, desert strike, MDK, Oddworld : Abe's odysee, in 2d/3d aka trine.
@Mr402: shit brother good call, also soul reaver.
UPDATE:shit forgot just poped into ma heid,, g:police yes sirry
I would love a Deus Ex remake.
I love that game, but the graphics are so old-looking and dated that I haven't touched the game in years, mainly because I don't like looking at the blocky characters anymore.
If it were to be remade, I would love it if it was made in a similar fashion as Deus Ex: Human Revolution. That game was awesome, with a great conspiracy story, and it allowed you to choose what Augmentations you wanted (hacking, shooting, persuasion, and stealth, and anything else I'm missing.) in order to develop your character.
Is there anyone who agrees with me in that they think the original Deus Ex is too dated, and should be remade either completely or have a huge graphic update?
I-War. Even the GOG release runs pretty poorly on modern machines, but conceptually that game is amazing - a space battleship simulator. Not one of those small WW2 style fighters that we got in Freespace and Wing Commander. Not quite at the scale of the capital ships Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica or Star Wars, but somewhere around the scale of Firefly's Serenity and DS9's Defiant.
It had 4 manned stations which you could switch between, the ship could separate into two sections kinda like the TNG Enterprise, and it had a fucking amazing art style for it's time. The ships - especially those of the rebels were covered in graffiti and painted messages. The game had just the right feel of commanding a large ship which had seen a few years of service, the UI and the details of how the ship worked all seemed consistent with how you'd think a ship like that may work.
I'd just love a remake of either of the games, or a sequel.
Original Deus Ex in HD on a modern engine and I'd probably pay full price for it.
And branching off the Deus Ex idea, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines in a non-broken version that doesn't require a fan patch to even run in HD on a modern engine. =P

But are you saying Nightshade is better, or are you saying both are hideous? The game is a direct sequel to the PS2 Shinobi. I'm just curious what makes someone pick one and rather conspicuously leave out the other.
Creatures, no game series has ever been more ahead of its time. I learned everything about genetics and evolution when I was 9 from this game.

@egg: Shinobi technically got a remake/reboot with the 3DS game. Nightshade is just really hard, Shinobi is really hard with a constantly life draining sword.
A remake of Azure Dreams could be amazing. It would be a roguelike dungeon-crawler with more in-depth city simulation elements as well as a variety of possible romantic subplots, along with a huge collection of monsters to fight and tame. If Konami ever remakes it and modernizes it, like how Firaxis treated XCOM, I would be a very happy man.

I liked Azure Dreams.
no PSN port that I know of. Can't imagine why.
I feel like I answer this every other week, but it's gotta be Descent
