No. These guys expertese with the wiki was a factor, but points don't matter. Try not to look so hard for a formula, because there isn't one. There are people in the top 10 or 20 on the wiki points scoreboard who would never even be considered. All anyone can do is be themselves, use and enjoy the site, and if they would make good moderators then the right people will notice. It's all very subjective.
It's not that at all. We'll consider any any user that contributes positively to the community. With regards to the post count discussion - some people can post tonnes, but never actually contribute anything very good. A small number of high quality posts is far better than a huge number of average ones.
As for the wiki points - No, it's not that users have to have insanely high wiki points values. A decent amount of familiarity with the wiki is required since all moderators will be required to pitch in with wiki moderation duties - but a huge number of wiki points isn't a prerequisite. We considered many users with a much more modest quantity of points. Naturally more wiki experience will be a factor we take into account, but it is by no means the be all and end all.

I think people need to stop criticizing and just accept it. The best users are picked to become moderators and do the dirty work many of us wouldn't, or probably not capable of doing at an efficient level. It lets us just sit back and let us do what we do.

I think he was typing on an iPhone, or similar portable device. And when typing on an iPhone you can't type in the main text box - you have to use the insert HTML feature. And when both quoting and using the insert HTML feature on an iPhone it will automatically bold due to the boldness of the @username in the quote.

Marino has been an incredibly valuable asset to this website for a LOOOOONG time now, whether you realize it or not. He doesn't post in the forums much, as he is definitely a Wiki-heavy guy.
ZombiePie has run the Community Spotlight for quite a long while - longer than anyone else on the forums has. He's also proven to be a valuable asset in the Wiki, but moreover, he also runs @GiantBombSquad on Twitter and a slew of other things. That dood has SERIOUSLY dedicated some time to helping make this site more awesome as well as get the word out about it.
Those two are guys that have deserved being mods for a long while now IMO.
