What can we, the Giant Bomb community do as a group effort to pay tribute to a duder we never knew, yet cherished like a friend? Something big and as a group to tell the rest of the GB crew that we're right there with them? Get brainstorming!
What can we do as a collective tribute to Ryan?
Perhaps a collective donation to a charity in his name. Child's Play comes to mind, but maybe we can ask one of the folks who knew him if he had one he preferred.
We need to do something for sure. What? I don't know. Its so fresh still and I'm not sure what the best course of action would be at this moment.
We need to do something for sure.
agreed
I don't think they necessarily need a tribute for Ryan Davis. I think the public outcry is enough to let them know that we're suffering along with them. Best way to honor a loveable guy like Ryan is to remember to tell your friends and family how much you love them and cherish the time you have with them.
However, there's nothing wrong with people working through their grief in artistic ways. Which I'm sure we'll see a lot of in the coming days. Those kind of tributes across the internet will be a nice gesture.
I'm sure the guys will, in time, suggest something (donating to charity like Child's Play) that we could do. Then again, the news broke the site for a few minutes and Ryan was trending on Twitter, so guess they know.
Then again: http://marathon.speeddemosarchive.com/ Summer Games Done Quick 2013 is coming up. Donations for a save file name, maybe?
No clue what to do but I need to do something to thank him for all the joy and laughter he has given me.
From what I've seen on twitter:
- Play your summer jams loud
- Wear your Giant Bomb attire
- Rock your colored new balance kicks
- Change your avatar to a Mr. Davis
- Live life with a laugh
RIP Ryan.
I don't have the tech skills to do this but is it possible to do maybe the best of Ryan podcast stuff? He was the fucking glue of the podcast, a natural host and every week he brightened so many days just with that podcast. In my opinion, the bombcast success is his greatest achievement and it would be fantastic to have a podcast of all his best moments, which there are a lot off. Rest in peace duder.
Just keep smiling/laughing, I don't know the man personally but I feel like that's what hes about. Mourn his loss and never forget.
I'd be up for anyone you guys have planned. Charity, community event, anything.
Changed my avatar first of all.
Sometimes when people die, their families accept donations to a local hospice / charity at the funeral. A guy like Ryan definitely must have had a cause close to his heart.
When the guys feel up to it, I think it would be a good idea to let the GB community know where we can donate to.
If we could collectively change the lives of some strangers for the better as a result of this tragic event, I think it would be very fitting.
I live thousands of miles away from GB crew, and Ryan added much joy to my days.
I think now is as good a time as any to get 'mum' tattoo'd in binary around my right forearm. I always thought that was a brilliant idea for a tattoo and hated Ryan a little for getting there before I had ever even thought of it :P
However, bring on the charity streams and fund raisers. We need to do something, seriously.
First thing is to change your avatar to this or any other Ryan Davis picture you like :
Fuck, that picture is way better. I'm changing.

If someone wants to set up a donation for his wife or something I'd totally contribute and I'm sure many others will.
How about a new Community Song about Ryan and his best moments?
This Friday I'm meeting up with a mate I haven't seen in a while and playing games over this.
I would love to donate to something for his family, a close charity, childsplay, a memorial, a game design scholarship (Ryan Davis Services To Silly Games Scholarship) anything. You have my money.

I am picturing some small homeless charity organisation in his home town receiving thousands of dollars in donations that would keep them going for a long time. Someone who touched so many people can leave a legacy in death in this manner. I have lost friends who died at similar ages, 29 and 30, and we made sure that their causes got massive donations that funded them for several years.
And of course, anything we can do to help his family in this horrible time.
We are here to help, GB crew and friends and family of Ryan.
Just say the word and we will be right there.

I would too, absolutely.
@gowans007: I donated. Thanks for posting this.
When there's some kind of fund or donation drive set up, I feel a community streaming marathon of all his favourite games is in order. Those things always get a lot of donations.
@gowans007: Donated!
Whe should do more though!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'll be wearing this a lot more often.
It's settled, then. We must
MAKE
CHINA
CARE.
Shot heard round the world. My girlfriend and I are doing shots in Ryan's honor tonight. Who's with us?
Any one in Toronto want to meet up and reminisce with drunken celebrations of Ryan's hilarity and the joy he brought? Not enough people got to experience you Ryan and I want to yell your name from the rooftops tonight.
Would be very cool to see a Ryan Davis inspired gamejam (a sweet Tapper re-imagining maybe)
Also any charity stream like a special Child's Play donation campaign or the like would be great to see to put our shared grief to good use and have something good come of this tragic end to a wonderful life.
@jaecee: Alcohol seems like an excellent choice.
I say, a memorial T-shirt, all proceeded go to Ryan's Family.
I'd totally support this idea, or any other form of donation from the GB Community to Ryan's wife/family
@rorie: just registering my interest in contributing to something for Ryan and his family/friends - monetary or otherwise. What a shitty day.
